Mountain Gap Middle School
March 3, 2025
A note from Mrs. Bardwell
Grades
Have you check PowerSchool lately? Friday is the end of our current grading period. Please take a moment and review your student's grades. Report cards will be issued the week directly following Spring Break.
Attendance - Every School Day Counts
As we enter the Spring, I want to remind you that EVERY SCHOOL DAY COUNTS. Attendance is important for learning. Please make sure your student is in attendance every day possible. Students who are in attendance at least half the school day, are actually considered present for the day. If they have an appointment, please bring them to school before and/or return them after their appointment. Being present for part of the day is better than missing all of the day.
Returning Student Registration Happening NOW
Have you registered your student for next year on PowerSchool? All parents/guardians who need to complete student registration for the 2025-2026 school year may do so by visiting the Enrollment page on the HCS website and selecting "Returning Student Registration."
Parents should have received a 10-digit snapcode via email that the parent has provided. If you need your snapcode, please email Dora Monroe at dora.monroe@hsv-k12.org. We currently have 25% of our registrations complete. Our goal is to have 100% of our returning students registered before we leave in May.

February's Teacher of the Month
February is drawing to a close, but not without us recognizing Brook Buchanan as this month's teacher of the month. Mrs. Buchanan teaches 6th grade math. She is in her first few months of teaching, but you wouldn't know it. She came to us in December and fit right in. She worked hard to get to know her students, her team and her new school. We are so grateful for her and all she has brought to The Gap in this short amount of time.
February's Staff Member of the Month
Our new custodian, Lisa Lugo, is our staff member of the month for February. She is a hard worker and a difference maker in our building. Mrs. Lugo works to ensure our teachers and students have clean classrooms and we all have a clean school. She is ready to help any time a need arises. The Gap is lucky to have her.

NJHS Applications DUE FRIDAY March 7th
Applications for membership in Mountain Gap Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society went home Friday, February 28th. Students received applications met scholarship requirements of a 85 cumulative average for all classes. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Junior Honor Society strives to recognize the total student—one who excels in all these areas. The standards used for selection are: Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship: as demonstrated by activities and teacher evaluations. If students choose to pursue membership, they must complete the form and submit it before 3 pm on March 7th.
Parents try beginning band
Our beginning band had a great time playing for our families last week! We shared what a typical rehearsal looks like, to include forgetting instruments, losing mouthpieces and dropping our horns. Welcome to beginning band! We even had time to let our parents try and make some noise! Thank you to all the parents that were able to make it out for a period of band. It was a great day at the Gap!
Mrs. Formby's Counseling Corner
All students have had their registration meeting. Course registration forms should be turned in by Monday, March 3rd complete with a parent signature.
Sixth graders turn them into Mrs. Frank - ELA
Seventh graders turn them into Mrs. Hill - Math
Eighth graders turn them into Ms. LeCompte - Social Studies
Information on all available electives, including the district requirements for enrollment in an Academic Elective, is included with your student's registration papers. Please look over these with your student so they can make the most informed choice about their classes for next year. If you have questions about honors classes for your student, please reach out to their teacher.
Watch Video
Leigh Ann Brown, HCS School Counseling Coordinator, provides an overview to parents about course registration for the 2025-2026 school year. Counselors are speaking with students about course selection for both core classes and electives. Watch Course Registration video.
Please email at Erica.Formby@hsv-k12.org me if you have any questions or concerns!
