McDill Elementary Newsletter
February 2024
Hello Timberwolf Families,
Well, we have our first snow day for the year 2024 already in the books! It is our hope that you and your children were able to enjoy the day and also create opportunities for some at-home learning. As a reminder, Mr. Sbertoli is out now until the end of January, as he is enjoying time with his family and new baby boy, born on December 26th. Crystal Armstrong, our school counselor, is filling in for him while a substitute, who is very familiar with McDill, is subbing in the counseling position. Please know that our students are always our first priority and you can still contact the office at any time during his absence.
Please note that tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10th, will be a Day 2 in the rotation. The rotation days on the calendar remain the same in spite of any cancelled school days. Since there will obviously be snow on the ground tomorrow and for the forseeable future, please note the policies below regarding outdoor gear. It is extremely helpful for the staff (and students) when everyone comes prepared with all items necessary items for the day - the Big 5, water bottles, Chromebooks, tennis shoes, etc.

☃️❄️ McDILL COLD WEATHER EXPECTATIONS ❄️☃️
Below are the Minimal Expectations for all students at McDill when snow arrives & remains on the ground. Please help your child meet these expectations by ensuring they have the proper outer gear before leaving the house each day. Thank you!
Hats/Mittens: KN - 6th - Needed each day
Winter Coat: KN - 6th - Needed each day
Boots:
Grades K-2 - Needed each day
Grades 3-6 - Needed when leaving the blacktop area
Snow Pants:
Grades K-2 - Needed each day
Grades 3-6 - Needed when leaving the blacktop area
As a school staff, we will continue to encourage students to follow the above cool weather expectations. However, we also expect students to make informed choices about what they wear outside. Many students, particularly in grades 4,5 and 6 choose to wear tennis shoes and/or go outside without hats, gloves and warm jackets. Please help us keep your child warm and comfortable outside (and inside after recess, as well) by discussing these cool weather expectations with them at home. It is important for students to realize that there may be different expectations at school compared to those at home. Thank you for supporting the efforts of the school staff to keep consistent guidelines for the well being of our students.

DON'T MISS OUT ON THESE AWESOME OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUR CHILD AND/OR FAMILY!
We can ALWAYS use more individuals to help substitute as a Regular Education EA.
This position would entail only a few hours a day helping with lunch & recess duties in the grade level needed. If you apply, please let us know when you are available to start helping out!
Thanks for considering this way to help in your child's school ... and GET PAID to do it! 🙂
