Message from the Principal
Dear Community Academy Families,
As the year draws to a close, I am filled with pride and gratitude for all that our high school community has accomplished in 2024. From academic successes to extracurricular achievements, our students have shown incredible dedication and growth. I want to thank our faculty and staff for their unwavering commitment to fostering an environment where students can thrive, and to our families for your continued partnership and support. Together, we are making a lasting impact on the lives of our students.
The month of December is a special time for reflection and celebration. It’s a season to appreciate the strength of our school community and the relationships we’ve built along the way. I encourage our students to take pride in their hard work and the progress they’ve made so far this year. Whether it’s preparing for exams, participating in school events, or contributing to acts of kindness, every effort contributes to the vibrant spirit of Community Academy of Philadelphia. Let’s finish the semester on a positive note and carry that energy into the new year.
As we look forward to 2025, I am excited for the new opportunities that await us. With your support, we will continue to provide our students with the tools they need to succeed academically, socially, and personally. I wish you and your family a joyful holiday season filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished moments. Thank you for being such an integral part of our school community, and I look forward to all we will achieve together in the year ahead.
Best wishes,

December Fun Facts
Did you know?
It’s the Most Festive Time of the Year! December is home to numerous holidays celebrated worldwide, including Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year’s Eve. It’s a season filled with lights, traditions, and togetherness, making it one of the most joyful months on the calendar.
The First Day of Winter Arrives! December 21st or 22nd marks the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the shortest day and longest night of the year. From here, the days start to get longer—something to look forward to as we cozy up in the colder weather.
December is a Month of Birthstones and Blooms! If you were born in December, your birthstone is either turquoise, zircon, or tanzanite, each symbolizing wisdom and good fortune. Your birth flower? The poinsettia, a vibrant plant often associated with the holiday season!

Quick Bits of News
2024 Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Flyers Now Available!!!
Pennsylvania Act 84 of 2015 requires that public and nonpublic schools receive electronic notice with general information about the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) on an annual basis no later than August 15. The attached flyer was created and should be shared with every parent or guardian of every student enrolled in the local education agency (LEA) during the school year.
CHIP covers uninsured children and teens up to age 19 – and no family earns too much to qualify. With nearly 128,000 uninsured children in Pennsylvania, this is great news for families!
CHIP provides quality, comprehensive health insurance for routine doctor’s visits, prescriptions, dental, eye care, eyeglasses, mental health, and much more. CHIP covers uninsured kids who are not eligible for Medical Assistance. For many families, CHIP is free – for others, it is low cost.
Parent and Family Engagement
Parents and guardians, the following documents describe CAP's commitment to engaging families in their child's education. Please review each of the documents and reach out to your school Principal if you have any questions
Flexible Instruction Days
Flexible Instructional Day (FID) Program
CAP's Flexible Instructional Day (FID) program has received approval to continue for the next three school years. If the school needs to close for snow or another safety-related reason, families will be notified and students will complete schoolwork at home as part of the Flexible Instructional Day (FID) Program. Click here for more details: FID FAQs
LIHEAP Program Available to Families in Need
CAP participates in the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). CEP is a provision from the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 which allows schools and local educational agencies (LEAs) with high poverty rates to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. CEP eliminates the burden of collecting household applications to determine eligibility for school meals, relying instead on information from other means-tested programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
