The Patton Post

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, April 26th
This past week I was treated to, quite possibly, the most adorable rendition of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" ever performed! Our amazing Kindergarteners merrily trip trapped their way over the troll's bridge and made it safely to the other side while showing off their amazing singing and dancing talents! I was completely enraptured from start to finish and did not want the performance to end! As always, we are so lucky to have our incredible music teacher, Mr. Whitaker, at the helm of all these productions and are so grateful to him and our wonderful Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Pullam and Mrs. Dietmeyer, for helping bring out the best in our Kindergarteners! It was a wonderful way to end the week!
Please don't forget that we have the Photo's Dine and Share on Wednesday, May 1st! 25% of all proceeds will go to our Make-a-Wish fundraiser! Treat yourself to a night away from the stove, grab dinner and help contribute to a good cause!
I hope you all have a great weekend!

SAFTETY DRILL (FINAL POST!)
Twice a year, we conduct a lockdown safety drill with all students. This is one of the routine safety drills we practice throughout the year, along with evacuation drills, shelter-in-place drills, and bus evacuation drills. Students are prepared for this drill so they are not unnecessarily alarmed, and it will be announced in advance. Officer O'Leary from the Arlington Heights Police Department will also be in attendance during our practice drill along with other AHPD officers.
Our last Lockdown Drill was in September and our next drill will be on TUESDAY, APRIL 30th.

UPDATE FROM THE TRAFFIC TEAM (NEW POST!)
Thank you so so much for working with our Traffic Team this year to keep our students safe and on time! We know there has been a lot of change but we are so grateful to how you all adapted to it and worked with us! Thank You!
We would just like to remind everyone that there is no adult supervision before 8:50am so please do not drop students off before then unless you are supervising them yourself! As the weather gets nicer and kids are walking or biking on their own, please help them time their departure so they are not arriving at school before 8:50am.
Thank you again!

ADVANCED LEARNING PLACEMENT INFORMATION (2nd POST!)
The advanced placement process will occur in May after the school year's testing windows have closed. Percentiles on the most recent CogAT and the highest of three MAP scores will be converted to a standard score (or z-score) before averaging, which provides a standardized way to compare data. The district will also calculate local percentiles for both assessments at this time. Families will receive placement information in mid-May. Only families of students who are new qualifiers to Advanced Math (grades 4-7) and Advanced Language Arts (grades 6-8) will receive letters. If a student is enrolled in an advanced course this school year, they will automatically be enrolled for next year. Please review the FAQ document for answers to more specific questions regarding the placement process. If you still have questions after reviewing, please contact Katie Paulson at kpaulson@sd25.org.
HERSEY SPRING PLAY - "PUFFS" (FINAL POST!)
Calling all future Huskies....and any Harry Potter fans!! Hersey High School is putting on a performance of "Puffs"!
For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.
This clever and inventive play “never goes more than a minute without a laugh” (Nerdist) giving you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders with a thing for badgers “who are so lovable and relatable, you’ll leave the theater wishing they were in the stories all along” (Hollywood Life). Their “hilariously heartfelt!” (Metro) and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.
MAP TESTING (FINAL POST!)
The District Assessment Window for the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Assessment will run from April 15th to April 30th. Students in Kindergarten through fifth grade will be assessed in both reading and math during this timeframe. Classroom teachers will be sharing their specific testing schedules with families in the coming week. We appreciate your support with ensuring your children are well rested and nourished on testing days. We also ask that you try to limit absences unrelated to illness during this time. Thank you for your continued partnership!
