FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy Friday CMIT South Families!
As we continue through the month of February, we continue to use this time for reflection, education, and recognition of the profound contributions Black individuals have made throughout history and continue to make in our world today.
In our school, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated and all voices are heard. Throughout this month, we will be engaging in various activities and discussions to amplify Black voices, educate ourselves on important historical figures and events, and reflect on the ongoing journey toward equality and justice.
February 26 - March 1, 2024 we will have a schoolwide Black History Month Spirit Week. Please take a look at the flier below for details of each day. As we come together to celebrate Black History Month, let us also reaffirm our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our school community. By honoring the past and working towards a more just future, we can create a world where every individual is valued and respected.
Schoolwide Policies and Expectations: Can you believe that we are more than 1/ 2 way through SY 2023-2024???? This school year has been very successful both academically, socially, and behaviorally! Students, Staff, and Parents we need your help and support to ensure that we end the year as strong as we started! Please reinforce the schoolwide rules and expectations with your scholars at home. If you ever need a refresher, please refer to our Student/Parent Handbook which is located on our website. A few reminders include:
Mandatory Uniform Policy: CMIT South is a mandatory uniform school. Students are expected to be in full compliance from the time they enter the building until they exit. This is inclusive of days in which they have PE. The uniform vendor is fully stocked with all of your uniform needs!! CMIT Sports gear is ONLY permitted to be worn on Fridays.
Electronics/Cell Phone Policy: Middle school students are not permitted to bring chromebooks, ipad, gaming consoles, or any other device to school. All cellphones are expected to be turned off and stored in their locker upon their arrival. Students who are seen with cell phones or none approved devices will have them confiscated and a parent will be required to pick them up.
Attendance Policy: Our instructional day begins at 8:35am. There are several students who are consistently being dropped off after 8:35am. Parents it is imperative that students are coming to school on time. Students entering classes late are disruptive to the learning environment. Additionally, when your scholar is absent, please ensure that you submit appropriate documentation to attendance@cmitsouth.org
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our shared values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Together, we can make a difference.
Educationally yours,
Dr. Borden- McCarter, Principal

CMIT SOUTH MS/HS ATTENDANCE UPDATES & POLICIES
Hello CMIT South MS/HS Families,
We want to ensure that all parents and students know the CMIT South attendance policies. At CMIT South, we follow the PGCPS attendance policy AP 5113. Below are some quick bullet points of the attendance policies:
- CMIT South will use the Google form 2023-2024 Absence Reason Notification Form CMIT South Middle/High School for all student's absences. This form will be the official means of parent/guardian notifications for student absences. Parents can also email attendance@cmitsouth.org when their student will be absent.
- CMIT South does not take paper excused/doctor notes. When a student is absent please fill out the Google form 2023-2024 Absence Reason Notification Form CMIT South Middle/High School. This form will be sent straight to the attendance manager. Parents are the only ones who can fill out the form and email the attendance manager about a student who is absent. A student cannot send the email or fill out the Google form, the absence will not be excused if a student does it.
- The Google form must be filled out within 3 days of the student’s absence; otherwise, the absence will not be excused. This can be emailed as well.
- Students who are considered unlawfully (unexcused) absent from school or a class will not have the opportunity to make up missed assignments.
- A doctor’s note is needed if a student is reported absent for three school days for an illness, and a physician’s certificate will be required if a student's absences reach six days. Please send the physician’s certificate to the school's attendance manager at attendance@cmitsouth.org.
- Mental Health Day. Students may receive as an excused absence one (1) day of absence in each semester of each school year for a student’s mental health needs. A note from a physician to excuse a student’s absence for mental health needs is not required.
Once again, these are just some of the new updates that PGCPS has put in the attendance policy AP 5113. We encourage all parents to read the full updated attendance policy linked below.
For all attendance-related information or questions, please direct it to attendance@cmitsouth.org.
Thank you.
ATHLETICS NEWS
First with the week recap!
- Both our HS Boys and Girls were able to have successful senior nights. The Boys defeated Phelps HS on their senior night while the girls defeated High Point for theirs. The drawing for the state playoffs will be tonight. After the brackets are created, we will know when, where, and who we play.
- Congrats to our JV boys basketball team on a successful season. They concluded their season this past Tuesday vs Gwynn Park HS. Thank you to all of our student athletes and coaches for another successful season.
- Our MS Cheerleaders finished their season with a first place finish in the county championships. What a great way to end the season for this successful program. Thank you to all of our student athletes and coaches who have been committed all season.
- Due to an excessive amount of uniform violations, JV and Varsity Boys basketball players have to wear their uniform everyday of the week beginning next week Feb 26th. Our CMIT South athletic/spirit gear is a privilege and students have been taking advantage of that privilege. This rule will go into effect beginning next week and last for exactly one month. If students are able to successfully wear their uniforms then after springbreak we can return to having our Spirit gear Fridays for athletes. If anybody has any questions, please let me know.
