Dear Families,

On Wednesday this week, we had our monthly Principal's meeting where all the principals gather for professional learning. Normally this meeting starts at 8:00. However, as it was the day after the elections, our district leaders pushed it back to 10:00 so we would be able to remain at our sites to support any issues that may arise. I want to commend all members of Ottomon's community for behaving respectfully to one another regardless of your views on politics. I appreciate your kindness towards one another and allowing school to remain a kid-friendly environment. You're awesome!

Just a friendly reminder that we have NO SCHOOL on Monday, November 11 or Friday, November 15! Tuesday and Wednesday are normal dismissal days at 2:15 and Thursday we are dismissed at 12:55.

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is Thursday, November 14th. We will start at Redeemer Covenant Church on Main Ave at 7am. The church will provide donuts and water for all participants! Parents need to walk with their students unless the child is of an age where they would be allowed to walk alone. The first group will leave at 7:10am and the second group will follow at 7:20am. If you want to walk, Ottomon staff will help shuttle back to the church to grab your car AFTER school starts. Please wear purple to help us celebrate, even if you can't make the morning walk! Attached is a little information on why we celebrate this day!

Parent- Teacher Conferences will be held the week of November 18th - 22nd. School will be dismissed @10:55am. Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up on time. If your child is in Bridges, Bridges will be open Monday through Thursday. There will be NO BRIDGES on Friday, November 22.

If you have not received a link from your child's teacher to sign up for a conference, please reach out to them to get something scheduled.

Bridges will be closed on Friday, November 22. School will be dismissed at 10:55 on this day so please make sure that you have an arrangement set in place for your child to be picked up after school.

Join us for lunch, a picture with Santa, a fun raffle, music, and activities for the kids. In order to join us for winter luncheon this year, you must RSVP prior to the event! Entry into the event is $2.00. We can't wait to see you there! See the link below to RSVP!

Give a round of applause to our FABULOUS cafeteria staff! They were presented with a Food Safety Award of Excellence for 2023-2024! Congratulations ladies!

I wanted to share some EXCITING news with you! We recently found out that out of all of our local schools that had the Dairy Queen Fundraiser Night, WE HAD THE MOST SALES! How cool is that? We now have the opportunity to come together again on January 21st, and if we win again, which I know we can, the entire month of February will be a "round up" month at Dairy Queen! That means that 100% of the round up proceeds during February, would be coming to Ottomon!

We love having PE this year! We would like if you could help us by reminding your child on PE days, to wear tennis shoes. We have students in crocs trying to participate in PE and it can be dangerous with them running around and playing. Thank you so much for your help!

Please be sure to check our lost & found rack. When our days start chilly and end warm, we get an overwhelming number of jackets and sweatshirts left at school. There are also a few water bottles as well. Whatever does not get claimed before Thanksgiving break, will be donated and we will start fresh after break!

At pick up time, we are asking that ALL parents stay in front of the flagpole while waiting for your students. When the bell rings, you may walk on campus and grab your student from class but before the bell rings, PLEASE stay in front of the flagpole. Some of the reasons for this:

1. Students can easily be distracted from their learning if they see their parent outside the classroom
2. Staff and students may be needing to use tables/areas outside classrooms for academic or behavioral interventions
3. Student confidentiality/privacy - this is especially important near our restrooms

Three things to do in Parent Portal:

1. Please verify all phone numbers and addresses are correct. This is really important so you receive our communication and we can contact you if your child is ill or has an emergency.
2. View your child's teacher. You can also find this out at the Meet the Teacher BBQ on Monday, August 7 or find out the first day of school!
3. Fill out the school funding form. Even if you do not eat school breakfast or lunch, this funding really helps our school! Thank you!
