A Time to "Paws"

Summer is a great time to pause.


This pause ("paws") gives us time to reflect on the school year, rest our minds, renew our energy, and reorganize for the coming year.


For our students and their families, we pray that summertime produces time well-spent together filled with fun and laughter.


For our faculty and staff, we pray that summertime lends itself to family time of their own and opportunities to learn and grow both spiritually and professionally.


Although we are on pause for the summer, there are still lots of things happening at school! As we continue planning for the 2023-2024 school year, we ask that you join us by praying specifically for God work out all the details, big and small.


Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.


We look forward to resuming our time with our school family very soon! Until then, below are a few updates and highlights from June.

A Look at What Has Been Going on in June

2ND FRIDAYS IN CULLMAN

As a member of the Cullman Chamber of Commerce, CCS has the opportunity to participate in Cullman's 2nd Fridays events.


Our participation is in the non-profit alley where we are able to talk to interested families and provide information about our school. Many people in the community do not know a lot about our school. This has been a great way to share all of the good things that God has been doing at CCS.


As a bonus... at the first event we saw lots of our students and families! This was a great treat. We miss seeing them each day!


The next 2nd Fridays event will be on July 14th from 5:00-10:00 PM. If you are there, stop by and see us!

BASKETBALL

Our basketball teams have been working hard this summer to learn new plays and improve their skills. The upper school boys have been working on fundamentals and skill development with Coach Tetro, Coach Morris, and Coach Washam. The girls have been practicing and have had some summer play dates at other schools. Coach Yearwood is excited about their progress and summer accomplishments.

VOLLEYBALL

The upper school volleyball players spent a week working on fundamentals, game strategy, and team fellowship at their summer camp. Coach Rowell was joined by Rachel Tam, UAB Volleyball standout, to get the girls warmed up for summer and fall play.


*Youth Volleyball Teams will also be having a camp with Rachel. Parents and players should watch for updates from Ryan Blodgett and Coach Rowell.

SUN SHADES

The playground is getting some much needed shade thanks to Mrs. Driver and J&J Fiber! Gian sun shades have been added over the playground area and over the area by the basement entrance. The shades will still allow light, but will reduce the heat and harmful UV rays.

UNIFORM YARD SALE

The PTF had a super successful Uniform Yard Sale! They will be using the proceeds to help with upcoming projects, classroom supplies, and campus improvements.


There are still lots of items to choose from for anyone interested. If you would like to shop, call ahead to the school office to make sure that someone will be available to let you in.

SCHOOL FUNDRAISING CARDS

Many of the schools in our area use discount cards as a fundraiser. The discounts are generally for local businesses and there are usually some really good deals. The PTF is currently working on cards for our school.


*If you own a business and you would like to offer a discount to be advertised on the cards, let us know. The PTF would like to give CCS families the first opportunity for space on the cards.

CLASSROOM LOCATION CHANGES

Classrooms on the main CCS campus are changing! It has been like fruit basket turn over as teachers have worked and moved their supplies to different locations. At our fall open house families will be able to see the new locations. For basic reference: PreK-1st in the Lions' Den, 2nd-3rd on the main floor, 4th-6th in the portables, and 7th-12th at Desperation Church.

GOLF TOURNAMENT

The 2023 Golf Classic was a great success! Our tournament was full of fun and teams from great supporters of CCS. We would like to give a special thanks to Anna McGill for all of her hard work planning and putting together such a great event!

DYW EVENT

Our CCS Fair Queen Representative, Miss Gracie Lee competed in the Distinguished Young Women of Cullman event. Also representing the school was Emma Grace Thompson who served as a little sister and assistant for the event. Great job, ladies!

ACCUPLACER BOOT CAMP

Students in grades 11 and 12 (and a few in 10th) have the opportunity to participate in dual enrollment math during the upcoming school year. To participate, the students must hold sufficient grades and placement test scores. Many of them have not yet taken college placement tests. To help prep for meeting this criteria, Coach Adams taught a math boot camp before they took the ACCUPLACER at Wallace.

Starting school is hard!

​

Sometimes the transition between being at home and being at school with new people in a new place is tough. For this reason, CCS Preschool and Kindergarten students are invited to attend two special days designed to help with the beginning of school transition.

​

During the readiness days, students will get to know their teacher, meet classmates, and learn about what a school day will look like. These two fun-filled mornings will include engaging activities and a chance for students and parents to practice drop-off and pick-up procedures.

Register your child to participate by completing the registration application below.

The deadline to register is Wednesday, July 12th.

PANCAKES WITH SANTA

July 22, 2023

9-11 AM


CCS will host a Christmas in July event for families in the community.

​

At this event, attendees will enjoy a pancake breakfast and a photo with Santa. And, of course... a reminder of the real reason for the season... the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

​

The cost to attend is $10 per person.

News Items for the Beginning of School

UPPER SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE

Upper School students (7th-12th Grade) and families are invited to attend an open house event on Thursday, July 27th at 6 PM.


This event will be at Desperation Church where we will be holding classes in the fall. The event will begin with a group meeting where Mr. Yearwood will go over several things with parents and students. Following the meeting families will be able to view classrooms and meet teachers.

LOWER SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE

Lower School students (PreK-6th Grade) and families are invited to attend an open house event on Thursday, August 10th at 6 PM.


This event will be at the main CCS campus on Beech Avenue. The event will begin with a group meeting in the gym. Mr. Yearwood will go over several things with parents and students. Following the meeting families will be able to view classrooms and meet teachers.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

As a reminder, school supplies are included in fees. The school will provide paper, crayons, notebooks, glue, etc. Parents will need to provide their child with a backpack.

CLASS LISTS

We have lots of new students and class lists are under construction. As soon as the lists are finalized, teachers will be given roster details. We are hoping to have this process in early July.

UNIFORMS

As you work on your back-to-school shopping, remember that all students are required to wear school uniforms. Specific details will be included in the student handbook. Uniforms are very basic making items easy to find and purchase. There will likely be no major changes if you would like to reference last year's handbook for details.


*For parents looking for uniforms, there are still several items left from the uniform yard sale.

GRADELINK

Returning CCS families should be familiar with Gradelink, our student information system. For new families, we will have information and assistance available for you at our open house events. The set up is easy and you will be able to monitor your child's progress/grades through an app.

HOT LUNCHES

Hot Lunch ordering will begin soon!

Each month parents will need to order lunches for the next month through our online ordering system. Each month parents will be provided with a detailed calendar of meals to choose from. Be on the lookout for August details in the next couple of weeks.

NEW FACES

We will have several new faces around campus this year! As CCS is growing, it has become necessary to hire additional teachers. We are thankful for our new hires that God has provided! You are going to love them!

FALL MOVIE NIGHT

It's hot outside! And, we still have some extra details to work out before we host our family movie night. So, we are going to hold off until the fall. Stay tuned for updates.
