Frontier Parent Newsletter
Fall News
Note From Miss Rutan:
As the crisp fall air settles in, we’re excited to share some great updates from around the school! Our students have been doing an amazing job, embracing challenges and working hard toward their goals. It’s been wonderful to see the positive relationships being built throughout the building as both students and staff continue to grow together.
Parent-Teacher conferences are just around the corner, and we’re looking forward to connecting with you about your child’s progress. This is a valuable time to celebrate successes and set goals for the rest of the year. Please take a moment to sign up for your conference using the links below.
We are also thrilled to see our attendance campaign, Committed to the Voyage, off to a fantastic start! Our goal is for every student to have no more than 1 absence per month, and your support has been key to that success. Thank you for partnering with us to help make every day count.
As always, we appreciate your continued commitment to our shared mission of Navigating Excellence. Let’s keep working together to make this a memorable and successful year!
If you have any questions, or concerns please contact me at rutan.katie@westada.org or by phone at (208) 350-4190.
Sincerely,
Katie Rutan
Principal

Important Events and Information
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher conferences are right around the corner. We are excited to meet with you and share about your child’s progress this year in school. Below are links to our teacher’s sign ups. Please choose your child’s teacher and click on their link to sign-up for a conference time. If you are a family using an interpreter, your conference will be held in the cafeteria. All other conferences will be held in the classrooms.
Conferences will be held on October 9th and 10th.
ALL students have no school on October 10th and 11th.
If you have questions about how to sign up for your conference time, please call our front office at 208-350-4190.
Fundraising Opportunity
We wanted to share with you an easy way to support Frontier Elementary through everyday online shopping, especially with the holiday season approaching.
We’ve partnered with SchoolStore.net, which connects with over 400 popular merchants like Walmart, Kohl's, Best Buy, Disney, and more. When you access these stores through the SchoolStore platform, a percentage of your purchases is given back to our school — no extra cost to you!
While the SchoolStore packet may make this seem like a big fundraiser, that’s not our intention. We want to clarify that this is simply a way to leverage shopping many of you may already be doing, and your child can earn prizes as a fun bonus. We are not asking families to make any extra purchases or to treat this like a major fundraiser.
Our big school fundraiser is the Walk-a-thon in the spring, and we want to keep that as our focus. Think of SchoolStore as a community bonus that helps Frontier earn a little extra while you go about your normal shopping!
At Parent-Teacher Conferences, we will be providing the packet to you instead of promoting through your children. We know how enticing it can be for kids to see a bunch of prizes, and we do not want to utilize this in that way. We simply ask that if you purchase from any of those stores online, or your family and friends do, that you look to see if it is a benefit to you to access the stores through SchoolStore.
Thank you, as always, for your support of our students and school!
HALLOWEEN PARADE AND SCHOOL PARTY - OCTOBER 31ST 3:00-3:45
4TH AND 5TH GRADE VETERANS ASSEMBLY
Please join us Thursday, November 7th at 9:30 AM in the gym for our program. We have put together a group of patriotic and historic songs to honor those that have served this great country that we live in. Presented by 4th & 5th grade students.
If you have a family member that has or is currently serving in the United States Military, we would love to honor them in our program on November 7th. I will be putting a slideshow together featuring pictures of the heroes that our students know and love. If you have pictures of your family members that have served in any branch of the United States armed forces, please send them to Mrs. Kaldenberg by Friday, November 1st. You can email them or send a photo to be scanned and returned.

Talking Points
Connect with your school through two-way, translated communication. Families receive a text in their preferred home language. They can respond in that language, and it is translated back into English for the teachers and staff to read. Our school uses Talking Points to let you know about school events, no school days, late buses, etc.
Frontier Drop-Off and Pick Up Tips
Knowing we have new families, and it never hurts to review expectations, I want to ensure that everyone knows what our basic expectations are to support...
- An efficient pick-up and drop-off process
- A consistent flow of traffic
- And most of all... the safety of our students.
We have a small parking lot and our systems work very efficiently when we all work together to follow them. We can get most cars out of the parking lot within 5-7 minutes if we are working together.
I also want to share a big thank you to my staff that all come out at the end of the day to help ensure that students are safely transitioned and that we are efficiently helping our students get home. Please review the guidelines below for your once a year review! Thank you to all that put safety first!
1. Student should be ready BEFORE arriving on campus
- Bags are packed
- Coats are on
- Shoes are tied
- Hugs have been given
- Plans for afternoon are clear
- Students know how to unbuckle from their car seat and open/close the PASSENGER SIDE door independently.
2. Always PULL FORWARD when there is room
- Mr. Thompson or another staff member will be waiving students along to our assigned pick up stations at the front of the building. Please be alert to this and move ahead if your student is being sent to a spot ahead of your vehicle.
- Please do not pull around cars and then move into the right lane. This is the cause of most near collisions and often ends up blocking BOTH lanes.
3. Unload or load QUICKLY and SAFELY
- Unload/load...including being able to work the door and car seat buckle independently.
- This shouldn't take more than a few moments.
REMEMBER:
- All students should unload from the PASSENGER SIDE of your vehicle. Almost all of our near misses between vehicles and students are from kids exiting on the driver side near the through traffic lane!
- Students must wait until their pickup car is parked at the front curb and Mr. Thompson or a staff member as assigned them a specific loading number. We cannot have students walking through the parking lot or loading on the side of the building to get into their vehicle.
If your child needs more time or support we ask parents to use a parking spot in front of the school. Adults must walk their child across the parking lot to their cars.
