Mental Wellness Week
Hello folks, and welcome back to our first edition into the 2025 calendar year. After an extended Christmas and New Years break with some snow and ice, we were able to return to Howser Dorm on the snow covered and chilly KSB campus.
On Sunday, we had 11 students return to campus, and we had a good meal of chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese with good biscuits, with honey, and some iced tea. Courtesy of Mr. Larry and our local Lee's Famous Recipe.
We had a good time discussing all the students and staff Christmas, and New Years adventures, and the fun times in the snow. Everyone was ready to be back to the dorm and back in class after such a long time away from campus, and friends.
Monday; was another cold day here on campus at KSB, but our students braved the cold to enjoy some recreation time in the gym with Mr. Rhodes. The elementary students played Simon Says, bike riding and running and jogging in the gym. For supper Ms. Renee had hot fish sandwiches, fries, fruit, and milk, and water with a snack. After supper the older students spent time in the recreation gym playing pool, air hockey and time on the bouncy mat. They also had a pizza and soda for a snack.
Tuesday was another cold day for the students and staff here at KSB as we navigated the school grounds for trips to the dorm and cafeteria. After supper tonight and the sun set on the western skyline, it became even more chilly. So, we decided that staff would do recreation time in our dorm basement with planned activities in game room of bingo, pinball, pop a shot and air hockey. We also had some crafts and music events, and discussion of a talent show contest at the end of the year. Many ideas were discussed with possible talents that everyone could show case. Some of the possibilities from students were spinning basketball on finger, playing musical instruments, singing favorite country song and line dancing.
On Wednesday the dorm students and staff endured another cold blustery day in the cold with single digit temperatures and spent time in the dorm basement activity center area playing board games, basketball pop a shot, pinball and skeet ball. Our students were happy to remain in the dorm after a cold trip to the cafeteria for supper and a return trip to the dorm. The older students were involved in some card games, bingo and a few trivia discussions on weather patterns and where cold air originates and why we have warmer weather in the spring and summer.
On Thursday we were able to make a trip back to the recreation gym as the temperature warmed back up above freezing. We were able to spend time on the bouncy mat, ride bikes and play the piano for the younger rec. Groups. The older rec groups came over after supper as we were able to the big screen TV and also had group that wanted to run and jump and play in the big gym and work on ball spinning, and other skills to practice their trade before the talent show at the end of the year. We discussed some of the upcoming events and reminded everyone we will not be back on campus until next Monday.
All things considered, and the fact we were a week late coming back to campus, and the snow, and cold weather, I would say we had a productive week back here on the cold and snowy KSB campus.
Until next time.
