CTE Teacher Prep News and Updates for CTE Month!
FEBRUARY IS CTE MONTH!
February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month! This is a time to celebrate the achievements of CTE programs and highlight the vital role CTE plays in preparing students of all ages for success. Career Technical Education (CTE) in California provides students with learning experiences that integrate academic knowledge and skills with industry-specific expertise. Through CTE courses, students develop technical skills for employment, enhance achievement by applying learning in context, and practice adapting to diverse settings and scenarios. CTE programs offer students mentorship opportunities, real-world work experiences, and connections to broader communities while also increasing high school graduation rates and preparing students for postsecondary education and training. CTE courses aim to equip California’s students with the academic and technical knowledge, along with the essential skills needed for success in education and employment. This empowers students to make informed decisions about their postsecondary education and career paths.
CTE Month provides an excellent opportunity for educators and school districts across Northern California to showcase the remarkable accomplishments of students and the impact of CTE programs. Join Tehama CTE Teacher Preparation in celebrating CTE Month!

LOCAL INDICATORS
North Far North Consortium Update:
California faces many environmental challenges, especially in the North Far North region. Wildfires, drought, flooding, and climate change pose real threats in California and worldwide.
The agriculture, water, and environmental technology (Ag WET) industry is at the forefront of research into potential solutions to these challenges.
Ag WET innovations include developing technologies and methods for growing and irrigating crops, and handling, disposing, or recycling farm waste or other hazardous materials in responsible, sustainable, and environmentally friendly ways.
As the environment changes, the Ag WET innovation will increase. Occupations in high demand include forest conservation technicians, agricultural equipment operators, veterinarians, maintenance and repair workers, and pest control workers.
Top employers in the region include the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Park Service.

Young Worker Rights Fact Sheet
This is a reminder that beginning August 1st, all districts and charters must issue a young worker rights fact sheet whenever a minor submits a B1-1 Intent To Employ A Minor form per AB 800 Bill Text - AB-800 Workplace Readiness Week: work permits. (ca.gov)
The Fact Sheet must be a physical piece of paper, not a link to a website, and must address the topics listed in the new law. To help schools comply, the Labor Education Center at UC Berkeley with an interagency workgroup designed a template that schools can use that has been linked to the CDE work permit page: Work Permits for Students - Work Experience Education (WEE) (CA Dept of Education)
2024-2025 Superintendent's Youth Advisory Council Application
