1st Quarter News & Notes
Morton Junior High School; October/November, 2024
We have had a busy 1st quarter, with a lot of fun events and accomplishments. Quarter one grades are being finalized and report cards will be emailed home Friday afternoon. We also want to make you aware of a few resources we have available.
First, the results from the Panorama survey students took earlier this year will be mailed home in the next few weeks. This provides a glimpse into your students view of school and their social-emotional awareness. Also, if you haven't already, check out the Counseling Connections weekly email. Each week there is either an article, podcast or video shared that helps you connect with your teen about important topics. Previous topics shared include study tips, how to help your teen make solid friendship and the importance of teens getting sleep.
Lastly, the CareU podcast has covered many great topics this school year. If you desire to know how to help your child navigate social media and technology, the first three episodes outline a recently published book called, "The Anxious Generation: How the great rewiring of childhood is causing an epidemic of mental illness," by Jonathan Haidt. We also have a presentation coming up you can partake in covering topics and data from the book. Additional details about that presentation can be found below!
Keep scrolling to check out a few of the fun events and moments of the quarter and to preview some upcoming events we hope to see you at!
Helpathon
Last Friday students went out into the community to serve for this years Helpathon fundraiser. We had over 400 students serving at 27 locations and we raised over $39,000. Our students did a fantastic job working hard while they cleaned, organized, sorted and had fun. Our ultimate hope is to help make our community a better place and show our students the value in serving out in our community. We are very proud of our students and all of their hard work. All of the money raised will go to towards projects and activities within our building throughout the year.

Career Spark
8th grade students went to the Peoria Civic Center at the beginning of the month for the annual Career Spark Expo. Students were able to enjoy an interactive, hands-on experience that provided them with the opportunity to learn about dozens of careers in a variety of fields. Our hope is that students see the wide-spectrum of careers they can pursue in the future.
