October 10/11: NO SCHOOL BOTH DAYS
SIBLING PICS? Due to lack of time and the number of students attending Sunshine, there will be no sibling pictures this year!
HOW TO PAY: Do not bring money to picture day. Right after your child takes their picture, you will receive a proof sheet that will have 4 proof images, a web site to log in to, and an individual security code. You will be able to log on and order any package you choose. Parents will need to pay online but any orders placed before the due date (due date will be on the proof sheet) will have free shipping and will ship to the school. Any order placed after the due date will have a shipping fee and be shipped directly to students’ homes.
WHERE TO GO: Schoolhouse. Park in the side 3 parking spots or side turnaround. You can also park in the 3 teacher spots up front if open but please don’t park in our front circular drive as you could get stuck until the car in front of you moves. Please bring your child underneath the carport outside the school, sign in, and take a seat and wait for Miss Sam/ Miss Caylene to call your name. We will only be bringing your child inside to take their picture and will bring them back outside to you when they are finished. Please be patient if you choose to bring your child to picture day. The photographers are trying to capture each child’s genuine smile and sometimes it can take some time with 3–5-year-olds.
WHEN TO COME: Please come anytime during your class’s scheduled time below. If you can’t make it, then please text Miss Caylene at 208-830-9776 to arrange another time. If your child is a 5-day m-f part time student, please choose from the two times listed below that best fits your schedule.

FAQ
Payment: Sunshine will be paying for your student plus 1 parent (adult) to enter the farm. Parent (adult) must stay and supervise your student the entire field trip. Additional guests can pay for themselves at the entrance upon arrival. Additional guests will also receive the field trip discount of $8 per person. Babies up to 12 months can attend at no cost.
Itinerary: Please find your teacher at the entrance where we will do a head count. Shindig farms will make an announcement and explain the available activities, including a Pumpkin patch wagon ride. (Any ticketed activity will not be available during the field trip.) Students will receive 1 free pumpkin from the patch (additional pumpkins may be purchased at a discounted rate during field trip hours). Plan on your field trip lasting approximately 1.5-2 hours.) Please head straight to the wagon ride upon entering as classes will try to stay together for wagon rides but feel free to split into groups after and explore the farm. Please don’t be late. If you are later than 15 minutes past your field trip time, you and your student will not be counted and paid for by Sunshine.
Heads Up: During the field trip hours (from 9am to 4pm), there will not be any food trucks or vending offered, so all attendees will need to bring their own food, snacks, and plenty of water.
Please check out Shindig’s website for more info on the offerings outside of the fieldtrip. https://shindigfarms.com/
October
As L.M. Montgomery says in Anne of Green Gables, “I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” Fall is such a fun time in our classroom. September was a great month! The kids are now experts in the classroom, knowing routines and expectations. We talked quite a bit about what it means to be a good friend and leader in the classroom and on the playground. It has been fun to watch them meet and interact with each other and make friendships. We also spent time talking about the differences between night and day. We examined different kinds of animals, and looked especially at nocturnal animals. I was able to spend one-on-one time with each of the kids doing assessments. Keep in mind as parent teacher conferences approach, these assesments are a small snapshot of what your student was able to show me right at the begining of the year. They have all grown so much already, and I’m excited to watch them grow in all areas in the months to come.
I have lots of fun lessons and activities planned for October! We will continue to work on recognizing our names, learning shapes, holding scissors correctly, building up our fine motor strength, counting, and grouping items by color. We will be starting our handwriting curriculum this month, primarily working on pencil grip and perfecting the pre-writing skills. These include the vertical and horizontal lines, and the circle, cross, and square shapes. I've linked the song “Where Do You Start Your Letters?” below to help your child learn our handwriting song.
Our weekly themes for this month are:
Trees in the fall
Fire Safety
Scarecrows
Pumpkins
Halloween
The Halloween Party is coming up! I will pass around a sign-up sheet for treats and parent helpers at pick-up in the upcoming week.
Don’t forget to check out our October song and pictures from September below.
Thanks for sharing your awesome kids with me!
-Miss. Rachel
