WEEKLY PREVIEW
August 2, 2024
π¦ Note from Mr. Zeman π¦
We didnβt survive the first full week, we THRIVED! I am so proud of the environment that our students are creating with us this school year. Please join the Longwood staff in reminding your students the importance of trying their best, showing kindness to all and using their voice to ask questions during class and to talk through our differences. Their actions are making this the best place to learn.

π iReady Testing begins Wednesday π»
Three times per year students take benchmark assessments in the areas of reading and math. iReady is the assessment program used across IPSD 204. Results are used by Longwood teachers to guide planning and support for each student. Below are ways families can support a successful testing experience for their student(s):
- β Students must take their time. The test is adaptive, meaning it will present new questions to them based on their previous responses. Encouraging your child to take their time will allow the system to best capture what they already know and what they need to learn.
- π π»Recharge: A good night's sleep ensures students are well-rested and ready to do their best. Students will use their Chromebooks for testing. Devices need to be charged each night and returned to school.
- πEncourage a Success Mindset: Mindset makes a difference! Remind your child that this is an opportunity to show what they've learned and how we can best challenge them as a learner this year.
Schedule:
Kdg: 9:30-9:50, 1st: 10:00-10:20, 2nd: 11:10-11:40, 4th: 11:50-12:20, 5th: 12:55-1:25, 3rd: 2:00-2:30
iReady Math: Wed 9/4, Thu 9/5, Fri 9/6
iReady Reading: Tue, 9/10, Wed 9/11, Thu 9/12
We appreciate your support!
π Arrival & Dismissal Reminders! π
Dismissal Reminders
- If your child's dismissal plans change (walker to car rider or car rider to walker) call the office 630-428-6789 by 3:00pm. Teachers do not have access to phone, email or Dojo when they are with their students. Calling the office before 3:00 will ensure we get the message to your child and their teacher in time for dismissal.
- If your child needs to dismiss early, please visit the office before 3:00pm.
- Door #2 & #3 are student exits only during dismissal. If you need to enter the building, enter at Door #1 and check-in at the office. We appreciate your help support dismissal efficiency and student safety!

LONGWOOD PTA
A Message from PTA President, Mr. Tim Skrivin:
I'd like to invite all of our families to join the Longwood Elementary PTA. We work to help all of our families and staff be a part of the Longwood community, through events like Fall Fest, Read Like A Lion, and Run With The Lions; we provide buses for class field trips; and we fund gifts for the school based on school needs. Last year we funded an additional basketball hoop, and chairs for the classrooms. In order to do this, we need to find people to put together the events. We want you to join and learn more!
Our first monthly meeting will be on Tue, 10 Sep on the playground (starting at 6:30pm, business at ~7pm). Your children are invited, and we have invited Kona Ice to be there. We plan to approve the annual budget and get the Fall Fest committee started. Please help us set our goals, start planning for our school gifts for this year, and find volunteers to run our events.
I hope to see you there!
- Tim Skirvin, President, Longwood Elementary PTA
