FFA Monthly Update

January

FFA Meeting

On December 12th the Anthony Wayne FFA Chapter held a meeting. During this meeting there were committee reports on the Meat Sticks Fundraiser, Teacher Luncheon, and SAE of the Month. After students decorated cookies and put their creations to a vote.

FFA Scholarships

In class on December 13th, seniors learned about scholarships available through the FFA. Check out this handout for a listing!

Agbusiness

Last month students covered the marketing unit. They learned the main topics and then worked together in groups as if they were a marketing group within a large business. The "vice president of marketing" of each group then presented their group's ice cream product proposal.

AFNR 1

AFNR 1 spent the month learning about water quality. They learned about point vs. non-point source pollution, different water quality tests, and how macroinvertebrates can help determine water quality.

AFNR 2

AFNR 2 spent December wrapping up research data collections. They also learned the basics of Parliamentary Procedure and worked in groups to demonstrate a mock meeting.

STEM Connect

STEM Connect learned about plant genetics this month. They learned about natural forms of gene editing, GMOs, and CRISPR technology. They even designed their own "crops" using the traits of other living organisms to improve them.

Understanding Food

Understanding Food also spent the month working on research projects. They each selected a food related topic to research. There were food quality tests, sanitation, taste preferences and more. They will use their data to write a research report that will be used as part of their exam for this semester.

Welding and Small Engines

Welding students learned how to use the plasma cutter and create joints using the metal they cut. They practiced T-welds, lap welds, and butt welds.

January 31st: Ag Sales CDE (select students)

SAE of the Month

Carson Vollmar

Each month we will highlight one student who has been selected as the SAE of the Month. This month we are highlighting Carson Vollmar. Carson is an 8th grader in the AFNR 1 class. For his SAE, Carson is naturalizing a pasture at his house. As part of his project, he has watered and cared for plants, harvested seeds and plants, identified weeds and pests, and cleared the pasture of unwanted items.

Department Student of the Month

Eva Schadewald: Understanding Food

Eva is a thoughtful student known for her kindness and willingness to help others in class and in the FFA. She consistently demonstrates strong communication skills. Whether in group discussions or one-on-one interactions, Eva listens actively to others, valuing their perspectives and responding with insight and consideration. We are so glad to have her as a student and appreciate her extra time she gives to the program.
