School Bus Safety Week
School Bus Safety week is October 21-25, and here are a few reminders about how to keep our students safe whether they are bus riders or not:
1. Stop for School Buses - When you see a bus slowing down to stop be aware of the surroundings. Watch for children who are waiting at bus stops or running to catch the bus.
2. Watch for Flashing Lights - Do not pass a bus with flashing lights or while the stop-arm is extended. It is illegal to pass a bus that has stopped to pick up or drop off students.
3. Talk to Your Child - Remind your child about bus stop safety. Students should not run and play at the bus stop and should avoid standing on the curb. Students should never walk behind a school bus. Your child should make eye contact with the driver before crossing the street in front of the bus.
4. Safe Riders - If your child is a bus rider, talk to them about the expectations for riding the bus. Students need to stay seated, use a quiet voice to talk to friends in their seat, and remember to keep track of their belongings. Students are not allowed to eat or drink on the bus.
5. Safe Walkers - If your child walks to school, talk to them about being mindful of school buses and other vehicles. Students should cross at crosswalks and make eye contact with a driver before crossing the street. When there is a crossing guard, students should wait for the signal to cross.
K-3 Autumn Walk
The Green Meadow Autumn Walk is Thursday, October 31, from 8:45 - 9:10 AM, and families are invited to attend to enjoy some seasonal fun. We have a new route this year due to the construction. Our students will exit the main door, take a left and follow the bus circle, take another left onto the playground path, follow the path back to the morning arrival line-up area, and re-enter the building through the morning arrival doors. Families are invited to stand along the route to cheer on students.
Students have the option to come dressed in their favorite autumn costume. Students might dress as their favorite character, sports hero, community helper, or other Autumn-themed costume. Students may not wear masks for safety reasons and weapons of any kind are not allowed. Students who are wearing a costume should bring a change of clothes in a labeled bag with their name as well as their grade level written on it. That way, they can change into their regular clothes after the walk and continue on with their day dressed in comfortable attire.
There will be an alternative activity for any student who does not wish to participate in the Autumn Walk. If your child prefers this alternative, please let their classroom teacher know.
We ask that all parents / guardians park at either Crowe Park or the Fowler Middle School parking lot and walk to the school building. Please keep in mind that buses arrive between 8:15 and 8:25 am.
Preschool Autumn Celebration
Preschool will celebrate autumn by inviting one caregiver per child during an art class with Green Meadow art teacher Taylor Vanaria from 10:05 to 10:20 am at the end of October and in early November. Please see RSVP details in an incoming email from your child's pre-k teacher soon. If this celebration conflicts with your schedule, rest assured that other opportunities to visit the classroom will be offered throughout the year. Happy fall!
Ms. DiLuca: Monday, October 28
Ms. Viros: Tuesday, October 29
Ms. Cohen: Thursday, November 7
Ms. Gonsalves: Friday, November 8.
Note from the Nurse’s Office
Green Meadow Families:
Please continue to send in the Health Information and Medication Consent Forms for this school year if you haven’t done so yet. If you need another form, please reach out to Nurse Ria and one can be sent home in your child’s backpack.
As we enter the colder months, chapped lips season is upon us. It would be helpful if you can send your child to school with chapstick to keep in their desks. Chapped lips can be uncomfortable and may lead to frequent visits to the nurse, which can result in missed class time.
Thank you for your support in keeping our students comfortable and ready to learn!
