East News
End of Year News
We’ve had a busy stretch here at East, and now that both proms have concluded, we are preparing for graduation.
1. DECA inducted 50 new members into the National Business Honors Society
1a. Our World Langauge department inducted 107 students into the WL HS
2. Our annual House of Hope Concert was a huge success. We had over a dozen wonderful musical performances. Ritu Desai, Maeva Rulis, & Olivia Crockett were our House of Hope Chairs and they helped raise $14,215.18 to support local women in need.
3. Earlier this month, the West Chester Area Education Association (WCAEA) and the West Chester Area School District (WCASD) held a ceremony to honor thirty outstanding high school seniors from East, Rustin, and Henderson. The ceremony recognized their remarkable volunteerism and community service, as they have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of others. The East awardees for the 2024 Spellman Humanitarian Award are seniors Jessica Pinto, Zachary Iozzi, Winetta Williams, Audrey Beckman, Clare Rudderow, Sofie Daniszewski, Kathryn Boggess, Mia DeVito, Alexandra Barnes, and Lasya Tirumamidi.
You can read more about the Spellman Humanitarian Awardees here: EHS Spellman Scripts 24 and the Spellman Humanitarian Award here: West Chester Area School District Honors Young Humanitarians in Memory of Dr. Elwood M. Spellman.
4. Our Junior Prom was at the Helicpoter Museum this year. The kids had a great time dancing, eating, hanging out, and exploring some of the accesbile helicopters -including a limo copter (
5. Our culinary students put out a wonderful breakfast spread, as East played host to West Chester Area Education Foundation breakfast. Local business leaders had the opportunity to hear from our Girls’ Who Code group and experience our pottery students making pottery on the pottery wheel.
6. Our Career Counselor, Ms. McCreesh, organized last week's career and college fair! The fair included 53 local businesses and colleges. Our gym was packed with students.
7. East was host to the first ever Ubalate Deo-188 students from all three of our high schools put on an amazing performance. Performers included choir students, senior strings, and teachers. Mrs. Kelly had me play the bell once when I was an assistant principal at Fugett -I barely survived.
8. East DECA had an amazing international career and development conference this past week in Anaheim, California. There were over 22,000 high school students from around the world competing in this event. East had 23 students compete. Peter Carr & Alex Chen were a Top 20 Finalist, as were Jimmy Helferty & Jacob Vengal.
9. Prom and Post Prom were awesome! The kids had a great time at both events. A huge thank you to our post prom chair Janey Wolf, and the dozens of East families who helped make it an amazing night for our kids!
10. Congratulations to the Academic Team for winning the State Academic Team Championship! Coaches, Mr. Schlamb and Dr. Jones, did an amazing job with the team this year. See Mr. Schlamb’s note: The students' academic prowess, nurtured at East during their four years, left a lasting impression. Their depth of knowledge and understanding was evident to all. Moreover, they made us proud as many of the judges, quizmasters, and onlookers praised the team's poise, sportsmanship, and unity.
The team dominated the early matches and the semifinals setting up a showdown against the team that defeated us last year- Cedar Crest. We trailed most of the match and were still down one question with two tossups left. Ethan Altshul and Alex Chen answered both questions to send us to the fanfare questions (team discusses each one and gets to answer) ahead by one. Our cohesiveness took over from there as we dominated the final fanfare to secure the Championship.
Thank you for your continued support!
