Cambrian's May 2025 Students of the Month Award Winners
Pathway to Biliteracy
On April 4, 2019, the Governing Board of Trustees adopted Resolution 18-19-06 a Pathway to Biliteracy Recognitions Program. The program recognizes elementary and middle school students who have demonstrated and met defined benchmarks toward proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English.
This award honored Kalliopi's engagement in the pursuit of language skills in two languages, affirms positive attitudes towards multilingualism, and validates the use of multiple languages.
Adoption of Consent Agenda Items
The Governing Board voted to accept the consent agenda items. Items listed under the consent agenda motion are considered to be a regular course of procedure and are acted on by the Board of Trustees in one motion.
There is no discussion of these items prior to the Board vote unless a member of the Board, staff, or the public requests specific items be discussed and/or removed from the agenda. It is understood that the administration recommends approval on all consent items. Each item on the consent agenda approved by the Board of Trustees shall be deemed to have been considered in full and adopted as recommended.

Annual Overnight Field Trips: 5th Grade Science Camps
The Governing Board approved the overnight field trips for Bagby and Sartorette, 5th-grade students, to attend an Outdoor Science Camp during the 2025-26 school year as part of the Consent Agenda. This is an annual field trip for Cambrian School District 5th-grade students to participate in a four-day Outdoor Science School during the 2025-26 school year.
Bagby: January 20-23, 2026 @ Camp Campbell
Sartorette: October 27-30, 2025 @ Mount Herman

Declaring of Surplus Property: Private Sale
The Governing Board approved the declaration of surplus property for private sale with Loma Prieta Joint Union School District as part of the Consent Agenda. In accordance with Ed Code 17542, school districts may sell used personal property belonging to another school district, and the governing board of another school district may purchase the personal property
The Cambrian School District wishes to sell an older van that is no longer used and eliminate ongoing maintenance costs. The Loma Prieta Joint Union School District wants to purchase the van, and the derived revenue will be deposited into the General Fund.

2024-25 Local Control Accountability Plan Presentations for Bagby and Steindorf
The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a three-year plan that describes the goals, actions, services, and expenditures to support positive student outcomes that address state and local priorities. The LCAP provides an opportunity for our schools and the district to share their stories of how, what, and why programs and services are selected to meet their local needs.
Mr. Michael Kretsch, Bagby Principal and Dr. Trisha Lee, Steindorf Principal, provided a summary and outlined their 2024-25 Local Control Accountability Plan School Plan. These updates included an overview of the goals, actions and services for improving student outcomes according to the eight priorities set by the state in alignment with the District's Local Control Accountability Plans.

Curriculum & Instruction: Cambrian Arts Program (Proposition 28) Update
The Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Mr. Linh Nguyen, provided an update on Proposition 28: The Arts and Music in Schools Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act. The update included highlights from the 2024-25 school year and allocation of funds.

Personnel: Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators
The Governing Board approved the Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators to be filed with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Commission on Teacher Credentialing Policy and Title 5 regulations require approval of the Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators in the event there is a need to issue an emergency teaching permit.

Personnel: New Job Description: Coordinator of Student Support Services
The Governing Board approved the new job description of the Coordinator of Student Support Services and added the position to the Certificated Management Salary Schedule. As part of Cambrian’s ongoing efforts to better meet the diverse needs of our students and ensure fiscal responsibility through our Fiscal Stability Plan, we proposed a strategic reorganization within the Student Services Department.
Attached is a new job description for the Coordinator of Student Support Services position. This new role is designed to enhance coordination and oversight of specific student programs and services, focusing on supporting students who require differentiated instruction and specialized support. The Coordinator will also work closely with support personnel to ensure services are aligned, responsive, and effective in meeting the unique needs of our student population.
The proposed position is under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and will be placed on the Certificated Management Salary Schedule.

The Governing Board approved the amended Board Regulation 5116.1: Intradistrict Open Enrollment. One of the Governing Board's roles is to ensure that District Board policies are reviewed, added, removed, and kept up to date to keep the District legally compliant.

The Board discussed potential start time options for Board meetings in the upcoming 2025–26 school year.
Next Board Meeting
The next meeting of the Cambrian School Board will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 7 p.m. Meetings are held in person at the Professional Development Center located at 4115 Jacksol Drive, San Jose, CA 95124 in Building 7, and can be viewed online as well. Agenda and login information will be available the week of the May 15th meeting. The meeting is open to the public.
