Robotics Club
Are you interested in Robotics?? The High School will have a Robotics Team for this year's competition season. The team will meet two times a week after school starting in late October. The Robotics Team will compete in local, state, and national competitions with a goal of testing your robot construction and programming skills. If you are interested in joining, there will be an informational meeting this upcoming Wednesday, October 16 at 3:45PM in Mr. Carney's Room 142 by the cafeteria.
World Language Club
¡Hola! Bonjour ! It’s the start of a new year and the return of your favorite club!
The McFarland World Language Club will hold its first meeting THIS Thursday, October 17 during Advisory in Room 304 (Madame Callan’s room)! We will be having a crêpe party, so come hungry!
Come to brush up and hone your skills in French, Spanish, and beyond! Come to watch movies and listen to music. Come to meet other world language students. Come for the snacks!

Celebrations
Badger Conference Honors Choir
Congratulations to Haylie Wollack, Jessica Udell, Willoh Crist, Elizabeth Charlesworth, Gavin Wehr, Sam Stiemke, JD Fessler, and Brady Ochalla. They will join 98 other singers from 11 high schools in the Badger Conference on the UW campus. Student will get to work with Dr. Zach Durlam (UWM) and Dr. Mariana Farrah (UW) to prepare a concert at Hamel Music Hall that evening.
DECA
MICE 2024 was a success! Our chapter members had so much fun visiting with the UW Bookstore to learn about their product and marketing strategies. Students also had a great tour of @uwmadison, met with some McF DECA Alumni, and finished the day off with a quick tour of the @majesticmadison to discuss their daily operations. Thank you to everyone who made this trip awesome!

Capitol Pageant
MHS students have the option to participate in the Capitol Pageant at the Wisconsin State Capitol. Due to the religious nature of the event, participation is entirely optional. This event is sponsored and completely funded by the Kiwanis organization. This year is the One- Hundredth Capitol Pageant.
Students interested in singing can access materials on the mhschoir.org site where there is a link to sign up. Mr Gregg will help anyone learn the music on Tuesday mornings from 7:40 - 8:10 from Oct. 1 until the week of the Pageant. This opportunity is not only available for any MHS student - but any Capitol Pageant alumni!! If you or someone you know has ever sung the pageant, they are invited to join the 100th Capitol Pageant Choir.

Parents, PLEASE REPORT ALL ATTENDANCE IN INFINITE CAMPUS. You are able to enter your request directly into IC at any time of day, even for short notice or late requests. (Instructions). If you are concerned that the office staff is not receiving your IC absence request, please make sure you allow push notifications for the Infinite Campus app on your phone. Once the IC request is processed you will get a notification.

Health Services
AAAAAA CHOOO! Cold & Flu Season
With the cold and flu season in full swing, please review our Guidelines for sending your child to school. Flu/Cold medication is not available in the Health Office (only Tylenol & Ibuprofen). Remember, if your child is sick please keep them home and seek medical evaluation as needed. Students will be sent home with the following symptoms:
Temperature above 100.4°F
Vomiting or diarrhea
Frequent uncontrollable cough
Your child should remain at home until fever, vomiting/diarrhea has stopped for 24 hours without the use of medication. If they have been prescribed antibiotics, please see the MSD Health Services Handbook and DHS Wisconsin Childhood Communicable Disease guidelines for when they may return to school. As well, please notify the School/Health Office if your student has tested positive for a communicable disease such as: Influenza/Flu, Covid 19, Pneumonia, Strep Throat, RSV, Hand Foot & Mouth, Pertussis, etc.

Public Health Vaccine Clinics
Public Health Madison & Dane County is partnering with surrounding school districts and SSM Health in a few weeks to offer more school vaccine clinics to get students up to date on their school vaccines in time for the 2024-25 school year. These clinics will take place at multiple locations and dates. Athletics
Spartan Nation Update
Girls Tennis: Competed well at their Sub Sectional and Sectional this past week. They took 6th place at the Division 1 Sectional meet. Congratulations to all the athletes for a great season. Thank you to Tod Lacey, Patrick Touhey, and Gabe Rowley for their hard work throughout the season.
Football: Won a very competitive game against Jefferson on Friday.
Volleyball: Had a tough conference loss to Edgewood on Tuesday, but they competed very well this weekend at the Badger Small Conference Tournament taking 4th place overall in the Badger Small conference.
Girls Swimming: Had a very nice conference win over Sauk Prairie this past Tuesday.
Boys Soccer: Had a busy week with a conference win over Portage, a very competitive non conference loss to Watertown and a nice win over Columbus.
Cross Country: Had a very good showing at the Fort Atkinson Invite this past Thursday. The girls team took 3rd place and CONGRATULATIONS to the boys team taking 1st place. Now they are preparing for their conference meet this upcoming Saturday at Mount Horeb.
MHS Dance: Is getting ready for their performance at the home football game on Friday.

Summary from the 10/7/24 School Board Meeting:
In addition to their regular duties of approving minutes, staffing, and expenses, here are some highlights from the meeting:
Members from the MHS Connect Club presented a report from the MHS student body
Board Member Tom Mooney shared an update on the Wisconsin Virtual Academy
The Board discussed the results of their self-assessment of their board meetings including ideas for how they could improve
The Board discussed a Joint Village Board and School Board Letter to Legislators Regarding Funding. This will be an action item and the next board meeting.
Action items that were acted upon included:
The Board approved an MHS International Trip Program Travel Request for students to travel to Paris, Switzerland, and Munich during the summer of 2026. Please note that no district funds are used for this trip.
The Board approved the annual Application for Girls Hockey WIAA Cooperative Team Renewal and the 2025-2027 Girls Hockey Cooperative Contract with the Stoughton, Barneveld, Evansville, Oregon, Monona Grove, and Lodi School Districts.
