Shocker Standouts
Counselors' Corner
Did you know that in 2023, 4.6% of middle school students reported using e-cigarettes (vaping) in the last 30 days? At SCMS we have seen an uptick in the last several years of students who either divulge that they vape or know friends who vape. Many students report that they do vape to relieve stress. It is important that we teach our middle school students healthy coping skills to deal with stress as well as ways to avoid peer pressure.

A Different Kind of Snow Day
A light dusting of snow and a pajama day? Now, that's a wonderful Wednesday! Mrs. Haynes' seventh-grade ELA classes made the most of it, sharing haiku they'd composed about snow... in the snow!
We love our volunteers!
Picture-Perfect Courtyard
It's even prettier with its winter coat! When warm weather returns, our students will again enjoy courtyard lunches. We so appreciate the hard work of Judy Thompson, our eighth-grade Quinn's mom, that has transformed it into a beautiful, peaceful space. We 💓 you!
Seventh Grade Has Gone to the Frogs
The best science class is a hands-on science class!
Sure, there are online sites that simulate dissections, but we in the Shocker Nation believe that real experiences still matter. Putting lab practices to work opens up the world to our students. Ms. Gardner's and Mrs. Burnett's seventh grade science classes took on an exploration of body systems and comparative zoology that we hope will pique further interest in health sciences for them in the future.
Sixth Grade Projects Celebrate Culture
Mrs. Priest's AE class centers on traveling the world, digitally! Here, one of her students gives some background on Brazil before presenting his itinerary for visiting in real life.
Mr. Gross' students have been studying immigration, its former gateway, Ellis Island, and the cultures melded together in our United States!
