Mission Statement
St. Maria Goretti is a living testament to our Lord's work in His youngest disciples, exemplified by academic excellence, spiritual formation, and compassionate service to others.
St. Maria Goretti Catholic School aims to form what is True, Good, and Beautiful in the souls of our young disciples of Christ.
Principal's Message
Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,
This week students in grades 3rd-7th will be taking the IOWA and COGAT tests. Our 8th grade students will be taking the CLT exam. This will be a no homework week. Like you always do, please make sure students get a good nights rest and eat a healthy breakfast before coming to school.
Our first Home and School meeting of the year is Tuesday. Fellowship begins at 5:30 PM and the meeting begins at 6:00 PM. Parents earn a Spirit hour when they attend and students earn a jeans day with SMG spirit shirt and uniform shoes on Friday September 20, 2024.
The yearbooks have arrived! If you ordered one we will be sending them home with students next week. If you did not order one, you can purchase one for $25.00 from the front office.
Blessing of the Pets will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 3:00 in the back field. Please bring any furry friends to be blessed at the time.
Please remember there is a noon dismissal on October 4, 2024 to prepare for GorettiFest. However SMEED will NOT be available. All corners of the campus will be used for the event and there is no place to hold SMEED. Please make arrangements now to make sure your child is picked up by 12:15 PM on October 4th. Thank you.
St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!
Blessings,
Amy Utendorf, M.Ed.

You have the option of ordering other lunches besides the one offered for the day; however if you do so, you need to specify the date you want that lunch delivered. What is PSIA?
With 19 contest categories covering a wide range of disciplines, PSIA (Private School Interscholastic Association) is an exciting opportunity for private school students in grades 2 through 8 to engage in academic competition with their peers throughout the state of Texas.
Contests are open to students in various grade levels. There will be study sessions after school to prepare for the meet and students will be asked to study in addition to their normal work load. Parents are required to pay a fee of $12 per category contest at the District level to participate and work at least TWO (2) shifts at the PSIA District meet. Students may become eligible for State competition which will include additional fees and shifts as needed.
We understand students are involved in many of our extracurricular activities at SMGCS. Students may still participate in PSIA and work with their PSIA advisor concerning missed practices due to games, rehearsals, etc. before Spring competition.

TERRIFIC TROJANS
SMG students receive a Terrific Trojan sticker when they are "caught" being safe, responsible and respectful. After wearing the sticker during the day, the Terrific Trojan places it on the hallway bulletin board. We love seeing how full the bulletin board becomes by the end of the school year.
SMG Trojans displayed many great qualties this week: Clare helped clean up punched holes off the floor, Tracy gave her last cookie to Mrs. Saladino when her blood sugar plummeted, Liz helped walk a Pre-K student in from car line and Anton choose to do the right thing while others around him did not. Home & School surprised the faculty with sweet treats on Friday. It was a perfect ending to our week!

Happy Birthday Mary
The Catholic Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8th, which is the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This date is nine months after the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, which is celebrated on December 8th.
Students were treated to a cupcake in celebration of Mary's birthday. Guess what color the frosting was?
Atrium
PreK worked peacefully in the Atrium as peaceful work leads us to prayer. Practical life exercises include care of self, like our handwashing station.
2nd Grade practiced their procession for the Enthronement of the Bible. This takes place at the beginning of our Atrium year, and each time we change our liturgical colors. The Bible has a place of love and respect at our prayer table.
3rd grade Level 2 students worked with our Scripture Charts to learn about Bible citations. They practiced to find and begin to ponder parables. What are parables? They must be important if Jesus used them to communicate with the people of His time. I wonder what they could mean for us and our place in the Kingdom of God.

4th Grade Religion Celebrates Mother Mary's Birthday
5th Grade Field Trip
The Children’s Education Program at Bass Hall brought Peter Boyer’s Ellis Island: The Dream of America, to life for our 5th grade students. Ellis Island: The Dream of America, combines spoken word with music and projected images, to illustrate the American immigrant experience around the turn of the 20th century. The actors onstage embody stories of real immigrants, telling their own stories. Taken from the Ellis Island Oral History Project, Boyer shaped short monologues from the actual words of immigrants and created a moving narrative within an orchestral tapestry. We hope students grasp that the actors embody immigrants who have and still do, struggle mightily for the opportunities that America offers. With a hopeful dream that they will celebrate more fully, our nation of immigrants.
