Waikiki School Parent Bulletin - April 30, 2024
A+ Afterschool Program 2024-25 School Year
The After-school+, also known as the A+ Program, was developed by the Hawaii State Legislature to reduce the incidence of latchkey children in the after-school hours. All A+ programs must qualify students based on the definition of “latchkey” which refers to children who have no adult present in the home to provide after-school supervision. Parents/guardians must meet the following A+ Eligibility criteria to participate at Waikiki School:
- School age student (grades Kindergarten to 5th grade) attending Waikiki School.
- Parent/legal guardian(s) who participates in any of the following activities DURING A+ Operation Hours:
- Employed (have a job or are self-employed)
- Attend school (college, university, or other types of schools)
- Engaged in job training
- Work for the A+ program
- Provide written documentation to verify employment and/or attendance in school or training programs for each parent/guardian. All documentation must verify that these activities take place during A+ Operation hours.
Waikiki School is pleased to announce for the 2024-25 school year, that Kamaaina Kids will serve as its private A+ provider. Please read the following letter below from Kamaaina Kids School Age Manager Mr. Ed Silva.
Information regarding A+ registration will come out shortly.
Waikiki School PTO Support of Teacher Appreciation Week
Aloha PTO ohana!
Waikīkī School will celebrate Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week during the week of May 6-10. The PTO plans on hosting a week of festivities with a daily treat for our teachers and staff, including coffee/breakfast, bentos, acai bowl bar at the teacher/staff meeting, and gift cards. We would love to have your involvement!
Ways you can help:
- Bring in desserts/baked goods/snacks on 5/6 am (or other days), pick up bentos (5/7 or 5/9--you don't have to pay for them), help set up the staff break room for food distribution, help clean up after the staff meeting. Please email annchang@hawaii.edu if you want to participate in any of the above.
- Donate funds to help fund the gift cards and food. Any amount, even $5 or $10, will help make this week a success. Kindly consider contributing via CASH or CHECK made out to Waikiki School PTO. Donations can be turned into the front office- please label these with student's first and last name and "TEACHER APPRECIATION Donation"
Please also have your children write cards for their teachers and staff. You are also more than welcome to do something individually.
Mahalo for helping us celebrate our amazing teachers and staff!
