Athletics Update!
I’m thrilled to share the latest from our busy gym!
Our volleyball season wrapped up with some thrilling playoff finishes, including several medal-winning performances. Congratulations to all teams for their hard work and growth this season—we can’t wait to build on these skills next year! A huge thank-you to all of the coaches who gave their time to provide these students with an opportunity to play.
Now, basketball season is in full swing. All our grade 6-8 teams are practicing hard and competing in games. Each team has three games scheduled before the holiday break, with the rest of the season continuing in January and February. Playoffs will take place before the February break. We’re also planning to host a basketball clinic or two—stay tuned for posters or social media posts with more details!
In addition, we’re excited to host our annual Grade 7/8 basketball tournament, the "Winter Classic," in mid-January. Stay tuned for updates!
Looking ahead, grade 5 basketball sign-ups will take place soon, with the season kicking off in January after the break.
Thank you for your continued support of our athletes. Go Vikings!

BAND & CHOIR
‘Tis the season for lots of music!
We have two concerts coming up in the first week of December at Carlton: Choir & K-4: Wed. Dec. 4th, and Gr. 5-8 Band: Thurs. Dec. 5th. There will be dress rehearsals on both days from 1:00-2:30pm and the concerts will be in the cafetorium in the evening from 6:00-7:30pm (though neither concert is anticipated to be the full length).
The dress code for the bands will be all black on the bottom and the Vickers Music uniform on top (the uniforms are stored in bins in students’ homerooms). The choir can dress nice but will likely not wear uniforms for this performance as we are waiting for a new shipment of smaller sizes to arrive, and they will not be here in time for the concert.
Please let Ms. Lohneis know ASAP if your child is not able to attend the band concert as we are planning a big finale number that includes multiple grades and a lot of equipment transportation, so we need to have an accurate estimation of how many students will be there in the evening.
The choir will be singing Christmas carols and O Canada at a Raider game on December 14th. They will sing carols in the Ches Leach lounge before the game, and they will sing O Canada on the ice surface before the game. The students will not pay for a ticket for the game but are invited to stay afterwards to watch. Please mark your calendars! Stay tuned to the Vickers Choir 2024-2025 group on Edsby for further details. We are also planning some out-of-school experiences during the day to sing Christmas carols for residents at care homes (date TBA).
Due to snowfall and poor road conditions, the choir trip to Saskatoon on Nov. 24th had to be cancelled. The next trip to watch the Greystone Singers Spring concert is on March 23rd, and money from Nov. 24th can carry over to the spring or be refunded.
Registration for the PA Music Festival opens on December 1st and closes on January 18th. If your child is interested in playing a solo or small ensemble piece on their band instrument, please let me know. I can prepare them for the festival (which takes place March 6th-7th) and their entry fees will be covered by the Vickers Band Parents Association to encourage them to participate without financial barriers.
Thank you for your continued support of your child’s music education!

POLAR BEAR CLUB
We are excited for another “Polar Bear Club” for 2024-2025 at École Vickers School!
School policy states that when the weather dips below -30 degrees Celsius, students are kept indoors for recess. This year, we are offering the opportunity for students in grades 3 to 8 the option to go outside for recess during these cold days given a parental consent and must come properly dressed for the weather.
Please scan the QR code below to sign up.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Our staff parking lots are a “no drop off zone” as they are out of bounds for students.
We urge parents to support us in this safety endeavor by dropping off your children on the west side of the school on Olive Diefenbaker Drive; on Bradbury Drive, east of the Special Needs bus zone and between Gisi Road and Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
We encourage the children to cross all streets in a safe manner by crossing at the corner or at cross walks. Teacher supervision is also provided at our major crosswalks.
The Community Club rink parking lot is the bus pick up zone after school for our parents to meet their children for pick up. Please refrain from turning around in the driveways, as this is disruptive to the homeowners.
