A Message from the Principal
Canal View Families,
Happy last day of school! I am so proud of students and staff for making this such a great school year. Your children have learned and grown in so many ways, and it's an honor to be part of their village!
I want to extend a big congratulations to our fifth graders who are moving onto Cosgrove in the fall. We had a wonderful celebration yesterday to cheer them on as they make this next big step. If you would like to watch the event, the recording can be found here:
As we head into the summer, I want to remind you of how critically important it is to limit screen time for your children. Excessive screen time can negatively impact physical health, sleep, emotional regulation, and social interactions.
Encourage your children to play outside, read, work on creative projects, and spend time with family. Let's work together to ensure students have a fun summer, filled with diverse experiences that foster their growth.
Enjoy July and August!
Warmly,
Denise Lemcke
Principal

Classroom Placements for 2024-2025
Our annual summer mailing (teacher assignments) will leave the district on Friday, August 23, which means depending on zip code, you'll receive it the following Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
Please note that this date is a few days later than years past, but as always, we will not be able to provide this information over the phone, so we thank you months in advance for your patience.
An Update from Our Librarian
Here are some suggestions to make reading a special and enjoyable experience for your family:
· Read to your children: Spend time reading aloud to your
children, even if they can read on their own.
· Read with your children: Choose a book to read together, taking
turns reading aloud.
· Bedtime read-alouds: Establish a bedtime routine that includes
reading a page or a chapter of a book.
· Pass-the-book shared reading: Have each family member take
turns reading a page or chapter of a book.
- Family/ friends book club: Start a mini book club with family or friends, where you can discuss the book you’re reading.
· Visit your local public library: explore new books and
participate in library programs.
· Mini research project: have your child pick a topic to learn more
about.
Remember, letting your children choose what they want to read can make a big difference in their engagement. If they need some inspiration, our elementary librarians have created printable lists of books for each grade level at this link: https://libguides.monroe2boces.org/canalviewlibrary
From this link, you can get to the eBooks by clicking the Summer Reading tab at the top and then the grade level the student is entering.
Happy reading and have a wonderful summer!
