Classroom Spotlight: Room 206
Ms. Kathy M.: I have just about completed my first year at the ELC. Before working for Attleboro Public Schools, I worked as a paraprofessional for Foxboro Public Schools in their preschool program. I have my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a master's degree in Special Education. I feel so lucky to be a preschool teacher. I just love working with young children and connecting with the families to helping to support their development. I have two children in the Attleboro Schools, my son Jack is in high school, and my daughter Kayla is in middle school. I love reading, taking care of my garden and relaxing in my backyard with family, friends and my puppy Maggie.
Ms. Darby: I have worked at the ELC for 17 years. My job is the best! I love watching, talking and playing with preschoolers! They have tremendous energy and love to learn. I have been married for 33 amazing years .We have 3 grown children who are all successful and all started out here at the ELC!! They had amazing experiences with Miss Chris S and Miss Traci and also with Miss Chris G. My favorite color is yellow. I have a banana phone that I love to talk to the children with. My favorite saying is “Hakuna Matata” it means no worries!! I love my job!
Ms. Julie: I’ve been working at the ELC for about five years. I have two children, Lily and Campbell. I enjoy gardening, cooking, going to museums, playing with my golden retriever Bonnie and hanging out with my family… My favorite Halloween candy is snickers… I absolutely love my students and really enjoy when I see them learning new things and gaining confidence. Our favorite playground game is “spooky tag” when I chase them like a (not so) spooky monster!

The Autism Waiver Service
The DDS Autism Division runs a program for low-income children with autism called the Children's Autism Services Waiver Program. This program serves children under the age of 10 who meet both the clinical and financial eligibility that includes having/obtaining MassHealth Standard Insurance. The Autism Services Waiver Program allows children to receive Expanded Habilitation, Education, in-home services and supports, such as Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and Floor Time, for a total of up to 3 years. At the conclusion of the three years of the intensive in-home services, a child may access ongoing Supplemental Services (for example respite and goods and services, etc.) that meet the child’s needs until the child’s 10th birthday. Currently, the program serves approximately 400 children a year. While the program is near capacity, we are expanding the number of participants and there is a high rate of turnover in the program every year, so we looking to have a new pool of applicants to draw from to fill open slots.
The Autism Division is accepting new application requests for families interested in this program between the dates of October 14, 2022 and October 31, 2022. Applications must be postmarked or emailed from a parent/guardian no later than October 30, 2022.
Attached are copies of the Autism Waiver Program Open Request Application and Open Request Family Overview both in English and Spanish that can be shared with families. The application form, family notice and related materials in multiple languages are available on the DDS website https://www.mass.gov/dds-autism-waiver-service-program-overview
