Fall News from CLT Bike Camp
Off Season Camp Info Inside!
Hi CLT Bike Camp Families and welcome to the first edition of our quarterly newsletter
I wanted to start by saying a big thank you to those of you who made it into summer camp. We really appreciate your support and business. Thanks to our popularity, we were able to expand our free and low cost programming into several neighborhoods this summer and offer this awesome summer experience to a broader range of children.
To those of you who attempted to register only to find that we were already full in February, we’re working on expanding our camps this summer by offering three sessions of camp each week.
In case you missed it, this year we were able to partner with Leave Fear Behind Charlotte to offer Melanin in Motion bike camp. Next season we plan to expand our offerings of that camp. We also partnered with Trips For Kids Charlotte to offer two free neighborhood camps that were Earn a Bike camps. One was in Lakewood Community and the other was in Grier Heights. Another important note about Trips For Kids Charlotte and the Recyclery, is that they are a great place to get a new to you bicycle, or to donate one that is outgrown or unused.
We’ve continued to expand our youth training program, so that when a cycling enthusiast youth ages out of camps, but still wants to participate, they can take on leadership roles by offering the great experience that they had to the next generation of campers. We’ve been really pleased with how this program has developed. Two of our youth volunteers transitioned to paid youth interns this summer. Next summer they will be able to transition to full employees.
Looking forward to 2021-2022, we are excited to offer two off season camps. We’ve finally decided to revisit our holiday camp, which we haven’t held in several years. We’ll start with one three day session that will run from December 20th-22nd. We will also be offering two sessions of three day spring break camps, which are tentatively scheduled for April 13th-15th. Our December session will be available for registration on November 1st. Registration for our Spring Break Camps will open with our regular registration on January 1st. Remember that registration for CLT Bike Camp Summer Season opens on January 1st at 12:01 AM, and we fill up fast.
We will be adding two new offerings to our summer camps. The first is a half day Learn To Ride camp, and the other is a half day First Wheels Camp for younger children. They will be priced differently than our full day camps. Learn to Ride Camp will have a maximum of ten spaces per session so that we can give these emerging cyclists more personal attention.
Another thing we’ll be adding to our list of offerings are learn to ride lessons throughout the year. A few of us are already giving private lessons, and we’ll be training more of our staff to teach children how to ride bikes. We usually get requests for those who’ve struggled to learn from a parent, usually due to anxiety, and we’ll now be equipped to handle more of these lessons with more of us trained to give them. If you know anyone who might benefit from private lessons, have them email us at cltbikecamp@gmail.com. Our regular lesson price is $40 per session, but we also offer sliding scale lessons, and we can work with whatever works for your family.
Again, thanks to our wonderful parents and families who keep coming back, and spreading the word that CLT Bike Camp is a one of a kind summer biking experience. We appreciate you.
