Read at Home and Shine Like a Superstar!
Understanding Our Reading Goal
Goal Overview: As ur priority area for improvement is reading. By May 2025, we aim for 85% of our students to meet or exceed benchmarks in reading measures.
Tip for Parents: Encourage your child to read daily! Set aside 20 minutes each evening for family reading time. Choose books that interest your child and discuss them afterward to enhance comprehension.
Picture Retake Day-Friday, November 8th
Did your smile look crooked? Did your eyes shut down? Did your hair stand up? Was the camera flash too bright? Did you forget your picture money? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may have your school pictures retaken on Friday, November 8th. Return your whole picture package to Miss Wendelin.
Veterans' Day Celebration
Our Veterans Day assembly will be held on Monday, November 11th at 9:30 AM. Please talk with your Superstar about the veterans who may be in your family or circle of friends to invite them to our special event! On this day all members of the Swanson Community of Learners will be wearing red, white, and blue. Veterans are welcome to arrive after 9:00 AM for coffee and rolls provided by our Swanson Community Club. Due to seating limitations, our assembly will include only our students, staff and our special veterans and their families/guests.

Nebraska Weather
The weather in Nebraska can change in a heartbeat. Light jackets in the morning can be snowshoes and a parka by afternoon. Be prepared. Using the link below you can look up the weather forecast at KETV weather.
Snow Days Information
Nebraska winters can get pretty tough at times. When snow accumulates and the bitter wind blows, Westside Community Schools shares with parents a concern for the safety of their children. Here are a few guidelines that should help us in working together to assure the safety of students, no matter how bad the weather. Cold Weather: So long as temperatures are 10° or warmer, students will be outside for recess, arrival, dismissal, safety patrol, and other outdoor activities.
- If bad weather occurs you will receive phone, email notification and text-message if you have signed up, either the night before or that morning.
Keep Us from Getting Lost
Please make sure to mark all jackets, coats, hats, gloves, lunch pails, backpacks and other student items with their NAME in case they are left around the building or out at recess. This helps us get them back to the right owner.
The school has a Lost and Found that students are welcome to look through if something is missing.
Digital Dozen Star
The Excellence In Youth Team is excited to showcase Olivia B. from Swanson as the most recent recipient of the Digital Dozen award for the 24-25 school year! The Digital Dozen award is presented to WCS students who earn 12 of the digital badges from the EY Website (ey.westside66.org), which is available to students district-wide. It takes self-motivation, grit, and determination to earn these badges, and this star student should be proud of this accomplishment! Olivia submitted her 13th badge yesterday!
