Hello Cottonwood High School Students,
As we step into a new academic year, I hope you are filled with excitement and anticipation for all the possibilities that lie ahead. This is your time to explore new subjects, participate in enriching activities, and build lasting friendships. Remember, every day is a chance to learn something new and grow into the best version of yourself.
This "TCS HS Student Info Hub" has all the information you need to start your year off right! Please follow the instructions in this newsletter to complete the following tasks:
- Fill out the CTE survey
- Submit a photo & required info to the email provided to receive your new school ID
- Read this newsletter to discover all of the opportunities Cottonwood has to offer you this 2024-2025 school year.

1) To-Do: All HS Students fill out the CTE Interest Survey
Career Technical Education (CTE)
Cottonwood offers 11 CTE Pathways for you to explore different careers and gain invaluable career skills. Please click the button below to fill out this 5 minute survey to let us know about your career/CTE interests.
2) To-Do: Cottonwood School Student ID
To receive a school ID card, please send the following information to idcards@cottonwoodk12.org:
- a clear photo of the student
- first and last name
- student's Local ID number (the 5 digit number in your school email)
Once the ID card is made, you may pick it up from the library van, the lending library, or we can mail it to you if the other options won't work. If you need your card mailed, please send your mailing address along with the information noted above.

Students, remember that you have an army of supporters to lean on... parents, learning coaches, HSTs, teachers, and other staff. Be sure to use Pear Deck tutoring available 24-hours a day for all Cottonwood HS students. CVHS teachers offer ELT and tutoring sessions Mon-Thur and by appt. for both Live and Self-Paced students.

Now you can access information about classes, events, and opportunities on the Student Nest website. Access the NEST through Clever.
2) Counseling Corner
Need to chat with your counselor? They are available to help with schedules, college & career questions, all things pertaining to high school classes, and more.

3) Get ready for your future using Xello!
Want to dive deeper into your interests and strengths? Log into Clever and go to the Xello icon. The first thing recommended to do by our counseling team is to take the Matchmaker quiz. Explore Xello to discover college and career options and pathways based on your interests, skills, and knowledge.
4) Cottonwood Virtual High School Classes
Level up your high school game with CVHS virtual classes. Connect with homeschoolers and enjoy the flexible, diverse learning opportunities that will enhance your education and get you future-ready! 5) College Classes + High School = Concurrent Enrollment
High school students can take college classes for FREE while in high school. This is a great time to explore various types of classes, degrees, and certifications at our local community colleges AND to get a jump start on college classes! Click the logo for more information!
6) Career Technical Education ~ Learn to Earn!
Your CTE adventure awaits! Explore careers and work based learning activities to get inspired about future possibilities. Click on the logo for more information.
7) Teen Friendly & Focused Events
Cottonwood offers so many amazing opportunities for teens to connect with others and explore academic interests. HS students receive a monthly email highlighting those events. However, there are new events added weekly so to be in the most up-to-date-know, go HERE. Parent permission is required to sign up for all events.
8) National Honor Society Unlock Excellence!
Do you enjoy hanging out with other teens, planning events, and participating in community service projects? Looking to stand out on your college applications? If so, National Honor Society may be just right for you! Click the logo for more information.
9) Teen Self Classes
Be on the look out for Cottonwood's Virtual Teen Self Class where you learn about positive mindsets that put you on the path to success. On the Student Nest you can learn more about SEL support and resources.
10) Pear Deck Tutor
Did you know that Cottonwood offers free 24-hour virtual tutoring through Pear Deck Tutor? This can be found easily by logging into your Clever account and selecting the Pear Deck Tutor icon. Once in Pear Deck Tutor, there are many tutors available that can help you with everything from writing to Calculus.
11) Clever
On Clever, you will find super cool apps to inspire deeper learning. You will also be able to access curriculum apps like Canvas, Edgenuity, The Student Nest, and Pear Deck Tutor... to name a few. Go check it out!
12) Making memories at our epic teen events
Anticipate EPIC events both big, like prom & graduation, and small, like rock climbing & cooking classes, at Cottonwood. Prepare to make friends and make memories... your adventure awaits!
