From the Principal
Copeland families,
Welcome back and Happy New Year! It was so great to welcome all of our Colts back this week! I hope you had a wonderful break. Please remember, the doors to the building open daily at 7:50. Classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:15 each morning, therefore, our staff must come inside to assist with instruction and are not able to stay outside to assist car riders. If your child arrives after 8:15, please be sure to park and enter the building with them to sign them in at the front desk. Also, please adhere to the entry and exit signs in our parking lot at all times throughout the day, including arrival and dismissal. We want to make sure to follow the designated traffic patterns to keep everyone safe. We appreciate your cooperation in these matters.
Thank you so much to our PTO and parent volunteers for all you did to help with our winter parties. They were a success, and our students had a wonderful time! It was a great way to begin our break. We are ready for a fantastic spring semester. There are so many fun events and activities that happen in the spring, so please keep an eye on our calendars that we send home the first Thursday of each month. On February 27, 2025 at 4:00 we will have our public meeting to review campus data. This meeting will be held in the library right before our CPOC meeting.
As we continue to focus on attendance, we want to make sure our students are at school every day they are well. Please watch for the upcoming student holidays and plan trips around those dates to ensure your child will not miss any important instructional days. Remember, when you miss school, you miss out!
As always, we appreciate your continued support. You are part of what makes our school such an amazing place!

Science Resource Center Brings Hands-on Experiences to Copeland
Pre-K Bunny Tales
On December 9th, our Pre-K classes were introduced to Poppy the bunny and learned about the habitats, diet and body characteristics of rabbits. Our amazing volunteer, Ms. Clark, read our Pre-K classes the book, Rabbits & Raindrops, by Jim Arnosky.
Poppy the rabbit sits in his enclosure with a piece of straw on his head.
4th Grade - Reptiles
Mark the milksnake, Gary the king snake, Toby the bearded dragon and several box and softshell turtles came to visit our 4th graders on Friday, December 13th. Students learned so much from this interactive learning exhibit!
Mammal Skulls
Fifth graders were given the opportunity to observe and study mammal skulls on December 16th & 17th through an SRC exhibit. Ms. Clark brought skulls from 16 different animals, including beaver, cow, deer, fox and raccoon amoung others. Students observed characterstics from the skulls and guessed which animal they believed it belonged to. Each skull was discussed along with the unique characteristics that helped scientists to identify them and for each animal to thrive in the wild.

Kindergarten Has Fun on Grinch Day
On Friday, December 6, our Copeland Kindergarteners celebrated Grinch day and our staff joined in the fun! Our hearts all grew three sizes with the cute smiles and fun to be had. The Grinch even made a special appearance during arrival and throughout the day!
The Copeland Library - Our Colts Love Books!
Children's Author, Steve Swinburne, bring fun to Copeland's 2nd, 3rd & 4th Graders
Renowned children's author, Steve Swinburne, visited Copeland on December 12th. 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students were given a one hour presentation by Mr. Swinburne, who described his writing process, where his inspiration comes from and even led a few songs with his ukelele! He has written books like, Giraffe Math, Whose Shoes?, Ocean Soup and Big Truck Super Wash. This was such an amazing opportunity for our Colts, and an experience we hope will inspire them to be enthusiastic readers!
