π« A Note from your Administration π«
Hello, Husmann Parents & Guardians!
Each year, our Parents/Guardians (and our Staff) are asked to take a few minutes to complete the 5Essentials survey for our school. The survey is administered online by UChicago Impact and is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of Illinois schools. The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and is available in English and Spanish.
The survey window is from 2/18 - 3/31. More information for our families will be coming soon, including information about a special tradition we have around this at Husmann School...stay tuned!
Your Partners in Education,
Mr. Sromek, Principal & Ms. Fitzgerald, Assistant Principal

π±β Reminder: Smart Electronics (phones and/or watches) βπ±
Reminder: According to the Student Handbook '24-'25 smart phones and/or smart watches "must be kept powered-off and out-of-sight during the regular school day unless: (a) the supervising teacher grants permission; (b) use of the device is provided in a studentβs individualized education program (IEP); (c) it is needed in an emergency that threatens the safety of students, staff, or other individuals".(Note: District 47 treats any electronic device with the capability to call, text, connect to the internet, or take photos as an electronic device. If a student needs to make an emergency call during the day, the student should request permission to go to the main office and use the phone. Hamburger. If parents need to contact their child during the day, they should call the schoolβs main office.)
As we continue to build our sense of community in the classroom and foster positive interactions with others, one's emotional well-being takes center stage.
Students are learning how to...
Be aware of oneβs own feelings
Grow in the ability to understand oneβs reasons for actions
Use language to express both positive and negative feelings constructively
Wait with patience
Use constructive talk instead of physical action to express anger or frustration
Like other people and make friends
Get excited about ideas
Consistently look for connections between ideas
Look forward to school
Feel confident and successful daily
Believe in oneself (self-efficacy)
Have a sense of agency
Feel accepted and valued in the classroom
Parents, teachers, coaches, and trusted adults play a huge role in being positive role models for our students.

βοΈπ‘οΈ Cold Weather Guidelines π‘οΈβοΈ
Due to the many changes in weather this time of year we recommend students are prepared for whatever the day may bring. Please make sure your child is prepared with a warm jacket, hat, gloves, etc. If your child wishes to play in the snow at recess they must wear snow pants and boots or they will be asked to stay on the blacktop. Due to rain or snow it may also be a good idea to keep an extra pair of pants and socks in your child's locker. Please label your child's items. The guidelines established by district 47 during cold weather are as follows:
- 15 degrees or warmer- Unlimited time spent outside
- Zero to 15 degrees above zero- 20 minutes of time spent outside
- Below zero- Students remain indoors
