Mustang News - January, 10 2024
From The Principal
Welcome back, Mustangs! It’s been fantastic to reconnect with our students, staff, and community this week. The campus is alive with energy, and we’re ready to harness this momentum for an amazing year ahead. Hearing your break stories, seeing your excitement, and discussing your ambitious goals has been truly inspiring. I can’t wait to see the incredible growth we’ll achieve together!
Also, congratulations to Beckett as he competes in All-State Choir this week!
Enjoy your weekend and stay warm!

All-State Honor Choir Festival
Good luck to Becket W. as he travels up to Denver this weekend for this year's All-State Honor Choir Festival! Way to represent Manitou Springs High School!
Congratulations to the girls wrestling team!
Our girls wrestling team is doing really well! Abbie placed 3rd, Alex 2nd and Kara took 1st this past weekend. All three of these girls are ranked high in the State for their weight classes!
This coming weekend, 1/11, the girls will be at Vista Ridge for the "Alpha girl" tournament. Arguably the toughest tournament around, so if you get the chance come watch these girls in action!
A Word From The Counselors
REMINDER- In case you missed our "Concurrent Enrollment and Off Campus Learning Information Night" on December 11th, 2024 please know that there is still time for your students to learn more and apply! MSHS is just beginning the multi-step application process for students who are interested in either of the two off campus concurrent enrollment opportunities via Pikes Peak State College (PPSC). MSHS partners with PPSC for both "DEGREE Start" and "CAREER Start" and we are looking for new and qualified applicants for the 2025/26 school year. Please see the email that was sent out this week describing the difference between the two programs, the unique eligibility requirements and important timelines to adhere to.
Degree Start is for qualified CURRENT 10th and 11th grade students who wish to pursue a 4-year degree typically in the Liberal Arts field. Career Start is for qualified CURRENT 10th/11th grade students who are not 4 year college bound but wish to pursue a vocational program to gain skills for entering the workforce by earning a certificate or credits towards an associates degree.
If you think either of these programs would be a good fit for your student, please encourage your current 10th/11th grade student to sign up in the counseling center by 3:30PM Friday 1/10/25 . so they can be pulled for information regarding the separate application processes and/or field trip opportunities when we return from break. (Yellow sheet=Career Start, Green sheet= Degree Start) .

A Word From The World Language Department
Students from Spanish 1 classes were working on how to build a sentence about their New Year Resolutions, in the target language, by using conjugation forms of the verbs IR (to go), GUSTAR (to like), and QUERER (to want). They wrote down their own resolutions by using STEM sentences as resources that were provided during class discussion.

Join Us for the MSHS Baseball Bowl-A-Thon – Support Our Spring Break Trip
We are hosting our annual Bowl-A-Thon on Sunday, March 9, and we’d love to have you join us as we work to raise funds for our team’s spring break trip to Arizona.
Each year, our program competes in the Coach Bob National Invitational, where we face off against top teams from across the nation. The cost of this trip typically ranges from $14,000 to $16,000, and while the experience is invaluable for our players, we rely heavily on fundraising to make it financially accessible. The Bowl-A-Thon is our main fundraiser, and the money raised helps reduce the cost for our players and their families.
Here’s how you can participate:
• Cost: $20 per bowler
• Team Size: Teams of 5-6 people
• Event Time Options:
• 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
• 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
• 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
The event includes two hours of bowling with a variety of games and challenges for prizes, as well as a raffle for several exciting items. This is a great opportunity to build departmental team chemistry or spend quality family time together. The Bowl-A-Thon becomes exceptionally fun when departments, sports teams, or groups get together to compete for high scores and bragging rights. It’s a relaxed environment where everyone can have fun while supporting a great cause.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could gather a team of colleagues, family members, or friends and join us for this great cause. Your participation would mean so much to our team and help ensure that our players can compete on a national stage without the burden of high out-of-pocket costs.
Thank you for considering supporting us! If you would like to register a team, please use the link below or the QR code in the flyer to do so. Please let me know if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!
