FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear FJVD Families,
As you may be aware, Governor Raimondo held two press conferences this week regarding an upward trend in COVID-19 statistics in the state of Rhode Island. While this trend is concerning, we have prepared and implemented extensive mitigation measures since the start of the school year to help keep our community safe and healthy. Nonetheless, this upward trend is a reminder to remain steadfast in adhering to some of our essential health & safety measures:
Screening Tool
Thank you for continuing to complete our daily screening tool. If your child is experiencing symptoms outlined in the screening tool, please keep them home and contact the school as soon as possible.
I am incredibly grateful for our parents who continue to respond with an abundance of caution, keeping children home and maintaining open lines of communication with the school regarding student illness. Thank you! These actions help keep our community safe and healthy!
Wearing Masks
Our students continue to do a great job wearing masks properly, fully covering their nose and mouth. A reminder to please send your child in with an extra mask or two in case one breaks or becomes dirty during the course of the school day. In addition, a reminder to please wear your mask during pick-up and drop-off.
Social Distancing
Maintaining our social distance is challenging for children and adults alike. It is only natural for us to want to be close to one another; however, the current circumstances require us to adjust to a new - albeit temporary - reality. A reminder that all of our K-8 classrooms are arranged to maintain a minimum of six feet between desks, with all desks facing the same direction in accordance with RIDE and RIDOH guidelines.
In addition, it is important that families maintain social distance (minimum of six feet) during pick-up and drop-off. Please do not congregate in large groups at or after dismissal time.
Together, we can all do our part to help keep our community healthy and safe while continuing with in-person learning in the weeks and months ahead. Thank you!
Walkathon Raises Over $8,500! THANK YOU!
Thank you to all of you who supported our Walkathon this year with donations big or small. I look forward to informing the community of the enhancements we make to our teaching and learning programs in the months ahead thanks to the generosity of our community!
While some events were postponed due to weather, the students had a great time getting their walking in throughout the week. See the photographs below for more details!
Medify Air Purifiers Arrive!
Our Medify MA-112 Air Purifiers arrived this week! We're putting one in each classroom, and supplementing them with Merv 13 filters connected to our box fans to insure we have a filtering rate of 4 to 6 air exchanges per hour. This will help keep our students and teachers safe during the winter months! Thanks again to all who donated to last year's Annual Alumni Appeal, which provided the funding for these 15 Air Purifiers and a 3 year supply of filters!
Picture Day is November 3rd!
At this time, you should have received information via email or hardcopy regarding the process for picture day. For more information, you can view the Lifetouch Flyer here.
Students are permitted to be out of uniform for picture day. Please keep in mind our out of uniform dress code policies found here.
Screening, Travel & Thanksgiving Break
If your child has traveled to a state with a high community spread rate according to the list maintained by RIDOH, they must follow RIDOH travel guidance found here https://health.ri.gov/covid/travel/. The list of states maintained by RIDOH changes regularly, so please check frequently if you are planning to travel.
Please note that these travel procedures set forth by the Department of Health also apply to travel over the Thanksgiving holiday. If your family is planning to travel during this time, please consider how this travel may impact your child's ability to return to school at the conclusion of Thanksgiving break.
If you have questions or concerns regarding RIDOH travel procedures and how they may or may not impact your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Thank you for your continued adherence to these and all of our safety guidelines and procedures. Together, we can work to keep our community safe and healthy in the weeks ahead.
Probable Cases & Testing Procedures
The Department of Health has released additional resources for families regarding how to proceed if your child has symptoms at home or becomes ill at school. You can find the RIDOH Resources for Families here. Please note, if your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 that indicate a probable case, please call 844-857-1814 from 7:30am-9:30pm seven days a week schedule a test through the K-12 Testing Network. You should also notify the school as soon as possible.
If your child is experiencing symptoms and is being tested, two tests will be conducted at the K-12 testing site - a rapid test with results within 24 hours, and a PCR test with results within 48 hours. Please note, students are not permitted to return to school until both tests are negative and symptoms have resolved. In addition, families must complete the After Illness Return Attestation Form which can also be found on the homepage of our school website under "Important Links."
A reminder that our hybrid learning policies for students absent due to illness or quarantine can be found in our Hybrid Learning Guide for Students and Families as well as in a quick reference guide here.
Wishing you all a blessed and relaxing weekend!
God bless and Go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin

Aluminum Can Tab Collection
What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected
Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence
How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.
Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
