Weekly Newsletter
We have had a GREAT start to our 2024-25 school year! Your students are wonderful and they came back excited to see their friends and ready to learn! Our teachers and staff spent the first couple of days getting to know your amazing children and building classroom culture.
As we head into this week, we want to remind everyone that we are back to our full day bell schedule starting tomorrow, Monday, August 19th. School will start at 8:30am and end at 3:20pm. For specific times of each period, please check out our school Bell Schedule which can be found on the homepage of our website under the “Our School” tab.
New Cell Phone Policy
As we continue to build our culture of Respect for the learning environment at El Camino High School, the purpose of our school wide Cell Phone Policy is to ensure all students will not be distracted by cell phone use. To ensure that our scholars can focus on their academics, we will support them by having students place their cell phones in the cell phone pocket holder as they enter the classroom for each teacher. For more information, check out our ECHS Cell Phone Policy as well as our district policy of Off and away during the day - OUSD.

Lightspeed Alert - Safe Digital Learning Environment for Students
Oceanside Unified School District has partnered with Lightspeed Systems®to help provide a safe digital learning environment for students through the adoption of Lightspeed Alert™. Lightspeed Alert is a threat detection solution that monitors students’ online activity for signs of self-harm, violence, and bullying.
Lightspeed Alert is a software product that uses artificial intelligence to scan activity on school-owned devices, and school productivity suites, including internet searches for concerning words or phrases and sends real-time notifications to Lightspeed Alert safety specialists. The safety specialists evaluate all alerts, conduct threat assessments, and escalate to district safety personnel and/or law enforcement.
Lightspeed Systems plays a vital role in promoting student safety and well-being by enabling schools and districts to:
Protect students from exposure to harmful content and safety threats online
Identify and address worrisome trends and threatening or concerning behaviors to help prevent targeted violence at schools, address bullying, promote student well-being and improve school climate
Help districts direct mental health resources to those who need them, when they need them
2024-25 Student Accident and Sickness Insurance
The safety of our students is of critical importance to all of us and we want to protect them from injury. Even so, accidents do happen (at school and elsewhere) and required medical care can be expensive. Please know that ECHS does not assume responsibility for such costs but does offer you access to several student accident insurance plans for voluntary purchase. Details can be found in this linked brochure/enrollment form - English (SPANISH brochure/enrollment form).
For more detailed information, please see this letter - ENGLISH (Parent Letter - SPANISH).
