A Message From the Principal
Dear East Families,
We hope you are having a good holiday season! We are enjoying spending this time with your children at East - in addition to our learning, we have had so many fun events and dress up days over the last few weeks! See the schedule below for more things happening on our campus. Double check with your child's teacher and their Seesaw page for any additions that are specific to the grade levels and home rooms!
We want to make you aware of a couple of changes that will take effect when we return in January to help make our mornings run more smoothly at East:
Breakfast Bags: Starting in January, breakfast bags will no longer be offered in the Discovery Center. This change is necessary because the use of breakfast bags has been extending breakfast time well past the tardy bell and interfering with instruction once students arrive in class. If your child needs breakfast, they are more than welcome to come to the cafeteria during breakfast hours, which are 7:15-7:45 AM. As always, breakfast is free for our students at East.
Morning Drop-Off: When we return from our holiday break (January 7th), parents will no longer be allowed into the PK-5 academic hallways in the mornings. Parents may accompany their child to the Discovery Center but will need to say goodbye at the academic hallway doors. We will have staff present to assist students who may need help, but I assure you that your student knows where their classroom is at this point in the school year, as they navigate the school as needed daily. This change is being implemented to enhance student safety by limiting access to the academic hallways and to encourage student independence while helping us get instruction started earlier (on time). If you need to meet with a teacher, please schedule a time to meet with them during their conference and check in at the front office to go through our visitor procedures.
These changes will reviewed with all of our classes this week during their homeroom morning meeting. We will review these changes with your student every day to make sure they know and understand the changes once the new semester starts.
We appreciate your support in helping us create a safer, more efficient, and focused start to each school day. Thank you for your understanding!
Friday is an early release day for our students! If you are able to make it to your child's holiday party on Friday and wish to check them out early, you will check them out in the classroom with their teacher. Just like Thanksgiving, you will be given a slip to exit the building with when you leave with your child and it will be given to the door attendants on your way out!
We wish you a safe holiday break! Happy holidays!
Shelbi Eugenis,
East Elementary Principal
