Message from Mrs. Winkler
It’s hard to believe that we just finished the last full week of September, and we only have a few weeks left in the first nine weeks of school!
Next week, we will be holding our parent-teacher conferences, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to meet with you. These conferences will allow us to discuss your child’s strengths and set goals for the rest of the school year.
We’re also continuing to enjoy reading Wonder aloud as a school. It has been powerful to learn about Auggie’s journey as he attends school for the first time, and how he faces and handles the challenges of being treated differently. This shared experience is sparking important conversations about kindness, empathy, and courage.
We’re also excited to announce that the book fair will be open during our parent-teacher conferences Monday and Wednesday evening! Students will also have the chance to shop during their library classes throughout the week. If any parents would be available to help out Ms. Lytle with the book fair during the day on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, let me know! She could use some extra hands especially from 10:00 on during those days. Send me an email kerri.winkler@sedubois.k12.in.us if you are willing and let me know what day or time would work for you to help!
Additionally, we’re wrapping up our PTO fundraiser. A huge thank you to everyone who has been selling and helping us raise money! Order forms and money is due Wednesday. Your support makes it possible for us to provide the best experiences for our students and staff.
As we move into October, we’re excited to continue watching our students grow and succeed. Have a wonderful weekend and try to stay dry!

Otis Spunkmeyer Fundraiser is Due Monday
Our PTO fundraiser is due Monday, September 30th. Thank you to all of our families for their help in raising money so that our PTO can continue to provide supplies and experiences for our students! This money helps pay for field trips, our assemblies, our 9 week celebrations, breakfast with buddies, surprises for our teachers and students, and many other things throughout the year! We greatly appreciate all the support!
Picture Day is Thursday
Wonder Discussion
Here are a few questions you might ask your child about our schoolwide read aloud book.
1) Auggie often talks about how people react to his appearance. Why do you think people are so focused on how he looks rather than who he is?
2) How can we learn to see past appearances when meeting new people?
3) When Mr. Tushman gives Auggie a tour of the school, he meets Jack, Julian, and Charlotte. How do each of them treat Auggie differently? What do you think of the way they treat Auggie?
If you and your family would like to read the book at home here is a breakdown of where will be in the book throughout the first semester.'

What is Hispanic Heritage Month?
National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15 to October 15 in the United States for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.
