If your child is not feeling well, please use the guidelines below to help determine if your student is able to attend school or not. If your child is not well enough to attend school, please be sure to contact the school to inform us of their absence. If you happen to take your child to an appointment, it is always helpful if parents provide a doctor's note.

Stewart Attendance Goal - One of the Stewart building goals for the 2024-2025 school year is to reduce the chronic absenteeism rate to below 13%. Last year, we had a 16% chronic absenteeism rate.

What is Chronic Absenteeism? Chronic Absenteeism refers to the amount of students who miss 10% or more of the school year due to absences.

Current Attendance Rate - Currently, Stewart Elementary is at a 12% chronic absenteeism rate. Thank you for parents for making sure your students are getting to school.

For parents picking up their students in the PUL, please remember to bring your car tags. Especially for our new staff, we want to ensure that our students are safe and going home with the correct adult.

If you have misplaced your car tags or need additional tags, please contact Stewart Elementary for new copies.

Parents, please consider sending a set of extra clothes with your child to school. Whenever students get wet, excessively dirty/muddy, or have bathroom accidents it is always helpful to have an extra set of clothes they can change into. Of course, we try to provide those clothing items if students do not have them, but our supplies can be limited. Students are always allowed to keep those extra clothes in their backpack during the day so they are readily available if they are needed.

Stewart will be hosting Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, October 8th and Thursday, October 10th from 3:45-7:15. Please reach out to your child's teacher to set up a time to meet and discuss your child's progress.

Fire Prevention Week is the second week of October. The theme this year is, "Fire Alarms: Make Them Work For You", educating everyone of the importance of smoke alarms in the home. In addition to a fire drill that week, the Washington Fire Department will be making a visit to Stewart. Students will travel to separate stations to observe and learn the following:

1. What do you do if there is a pan fire?
2. See a smoke trailer demonstration.
3. Visit the fire truck.
4. Participate in bus evacuations.
5. Watch a dollhouse demonstration.

We're so happy to have the fire department here to teach our Stewart students about fire safety!

For any new students or students who were absent on our first picture day, Picture Re-Take Day is Thursday, October 21st.

Classroom Halloween parties will be on Friday November 1st. If you would like to provide any snacks, games, or crafts for the parties they would surely be welcomed. If you wish to send treats to school, please contact the classroom teacher and refer to the Wellness Policy. We can’t serve homemade items.

As a friendly reminder, if your child's costume has weapons, please refrain from sending those to school with your child.

There will be no school on Friday October 25th 2024.

Stewart Boosters meeting will be on Monday October 14th 2024 in the Stewart Media Center.
