Weekly Update April 4, 2025
Strive Center for Autism
Brighton Extending Pet visits
Due to illnesses (of humans, not pets!), we were not able to have many pet visits in Brighton in March. We are going to extend our pet visits into April to allow the kids a chance to meet the pets! We will let parents know when pets have visited, and your previous permission slip is still valid - just expect to hear about some more pets in April!
Field Trip Input
Thank you to all the families who completed our survey regarding field trips! We got some good input from you and we will move forward with plans for field trips in the second half of this year.
For the most part, it sounds like families like the idea of field trips ocurring about 3-4 times per year. We are going to work on some opportunities for us to visit places 3-4 times per year as well as some opportunities to have more visitors to our centers, like fire fighters, police officers, and other community helpers! We will share info as we have it.
Officer Friendly Day
Our friends at U of M Flint have shared this info on Officer Friendly Day and we wanted to share it with our families!
We are excited to invite you to our annual Officer Friendly Day event at the University of Michigan-Flint on April 26th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.! This event is for autistic individuals, along with their families, friends, and allies. It’s a chance to promote inclusion, understanding, and positive relationships with law enforcement officers.
Officer Friendly Day is a great opportunity to connect with police officers before an emergency happens, and to ask any questions about safety. The event is for children, teens, and adults with autism. There will be free food, lots of police vehicles to check out, fun activities to explore, virtual reality experiences, and even simulated traffic stop experiences where you can practice how to stay safe during a traffic stop.
Check out the flyer attached for more details and to RSVP. You can also RSVP by clicking this link: go.umflint.edu/OfficerFriendlyDay2025.
