Important information from Bowie ISD
🌞 As the weather warms up and shorts start to make their way back into our wardrobes, let's remember to keep the BISD dress code in mind when choosing our outfits for school. 👚👖
Take a moment to check the BISD Dress Code visual and make sure the shaded blue area is covered: âś… Shorts and skirts should be fingertip length or longer âś… Shirts should cover the shaded blue area (no midriff showing and shoulders should be covered)
Stay mindful when purchasing clothes and when your children leave each day for school. Let’s make this a great second semester! 🌟
24-25 Calendar - Spring Break March 17-21
Last year, the BISD Board adopted the 2024-2025 calendar at the March board meeting. While this calendar was initially communicated to the public, an error was discovered, and a revision was made to adjust Spring Break to align with North Texas Central College, which our dual credit students attend. The updated 2024-2025 BISD Instructional Calendar, marked with stars at the top, has been the only version shared on our website, Facebook, and in every newsletter since April of last school year.
Despite our efforts, the outdated version of the calendar is still circulating online when searched through Google. We have requested its removal, but it remains available. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, please always refer to our website or your child’s school. You can find the 2024-2025 BISD Instructional Calendar at the bottom of each #Bowiebuilt Newsletter every month.
Read Across America
March 3-6, 2025 is Read Across America Week for Bowie ISD. Take time to read to your child or encourage them to read a book. There are so many benefits to hearing others read aloud to them.
BISD is having theme days and BES will be having guest readers from the community read to classes and promote healthy reading habits. If you would like to read to the class, contact the front office at BES.
MOCK Testing
As we wrap up MOCK testing during the first week of March, we'll use the results to help us with tutoring invitations, goal-setting, and preparation for the upcoming STAAR/EOC tests in April. If your child needs extra support to address any learning gaps, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of tutoring sessions, additional homework practice, and Friday Bootcamps when invited. These opportunities are designed to help students succeed, and with the testing season quickly approaching, BISD is committed to helping all students show growth and achieve their best.
BISD administers STAAR/EOC tests for all subjects and grade levels 3-12. On testing days, it is essential that we create a quiet, safe, and productive environment for students. We kindly ask that parents make every effort to ensure their child is present at school on testing days and avoid scheduling appointments. Students have up to 7 hours to complete their tests, and we want them to have the full amount of time without interruptions.
Please keep an eye on your child's school calendar, the school's Facebook pages, and the BISD Testing Calendar for specific testing dates.
SHELTER
Our school has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). This month we would like to explain one of the 5 protocols we have in BISD.
SHELTER
Shelter is called when specific protective actions are needed based on a threat or hazard. Training should include response to threats such as tornadoes, earth-quakes, hazardous materials situations or other local threats.
In the event of a SHELTER the following protocol is in place on all campuses.
“State Hazard and Safety Strategy”
Hazards might include:
- Tornado
- Hazmat
- Earthquake
- Tsunami
Safety Strategies might include:
- Evacuate to shelter area
- Seal the room
- Drop, cover and hold
- Get to high ground
Students are trained in:
- Appropriate Hazards and Safety Strategies
Adults and staff are trained in:
- Appropriate Hazards and Safety Strategies
- Accounting for students and adults
- Report injuries or problems using Red Card/Green Card method and Navigate App.

25-26 BISD Calendar
BISD School Board Adopts 2025-2026 Instructional Calendar!
After gathering input from our Calendar Committee, surveying parents and staff, and working closely with administration and school board members, the BISD Board of Trustees has officially adopted the 2025-2026 Instructional Calendar!
What’s Staying the Same?
- Monday-Thursday school week remains for consistency
- Minimal changes to keep a familiar routine
Key Adjustments:
- Additional 2,100 minutes are required by the state due to the inability to secure a professional development waiver for the 25-26 school year
- Students will attend Monday & Tuesday before Thanksgiving per the request of the survey
- Traditional Homecoming festivities will occur with a ½ day of school on September 19th
- Majority of stakeholders preferred school on Monday holidays to maintain Friday flexibility
- Bad weather days are scheduled for April 24th and May 15th if needed

HOW TO ENHANCE FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS
Enhancing family relationships involves communication, understanding, empathy, and quality time together. Here are several strategies to help strengthen family bonds: Effective Communication:
- Create a safe space where each member feels comfortable expressing their thoughts, feelings, and concerns openly and honestly.
- Quality Time Together: Spend time together as a family regularly. This can include shared meals, family outings, game nights, or other activities everyone enjoys. Also, create traditions and rituals.
- Active Listening: Show genuine interest in what family members have to say and validate their feelings.
- Empathy and Understanding: Foster empathy and understanding among family members by putting yourself in each other's shoes and considering their perspectives and emotions. Respect Boundaries:
- Respect each other's boundaries and personal space. Understand that everyone needs alone time and privacy.
- Resolve Conflicts Constructively: Conflict is natural in any relationship. Teach family members conflict resolution skills, such as staying calm, actively listening, finding common ground, and seeking solutions together.
- Celebrate Achievements: Foster a positive and supportive family environment by acknowledging and celebrating each other's achievements, milestones, and successes.
- Support Each Other: Always offer support to family members.
- Forgiveness and Letting Go: Practice forgiveness and let go of past grievances.
- Express Love and Gratitude: Express love and gratitude toward each other regularly. Simple gestures like saying, "I love you," giving hugs, or writing notes of appreciation can strengthen family bonds.
- Work on Individual Growth: Encourage individual growth and development within the family. Support each other's goals and aspirations, and provide encouragement during times of challenge or self-improvement.
- By implementing these strategies consistently, families can cultivate stronger relationships, deepen connections, and create a supportive and loving environment for everyone involved.
