WCPS Students Compete in Envirothon
Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) students competed in the WCPS Envirothon on the grounds of the Center for Education Services on April 4. Envirothon is a hands-on competition teaching students about the environment. Categories include: aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife, and a category that changes each year. The bonus category in this year's competition was "Renewable Energy for a Sustainable Future."
Envirothon teams work together to study Maryland's natural resources throughout the course of the school year. Teams from ABLE, Boonsboro High, Clear Spring High, and Smithsburg High all participated in this year's competition. In addition, a team from Northern Middle School took part in the event although the group was not eligible to advance to the Maryland Envirothon which is limited to high school teams.
