Greetings West Wolves and Parent/Caregivers,

The first day of school is around the corner and we are extremely excited to open West’s doors to all our new and returning scholars. We have spent the last couple of weeks preparing for their arrival and we can’t wait to see them in our classrooms, in the Commons, and in our new learning community. See you on Tuesday, September 6th, Block 1 STARTS at 8:35am so please aim to be here by 8:20am so that you are ready to go. Go Wolves!!

We couldn't be more excited to launch Sun Prairie West High School... together! As we start the year we have an opportunity to build a culture and climate from the ground up centered on a culture of care. It will take ALL of us to build this community. Together. We all play a role. As we welcome students in next week we will be talking over the next two weeks about CARES everywhere and our community expectations. We will also be spending time talking specifically about the "Big 6" behaviors that we saw in Sun Prairie (and across the country) last year: Vaping, fighting, vandalism, being in the hallway, threats and swearing. These behaviors can yield significant consequence up to and included suspension and expulsion and that is NOT what we went for our Wolves. Please connect with your student over the weekend about being a positive member of our West community and the culture we are creating in which ALL are seen, known and valued. Please review the documents above: We all play a role and CARES everywhere and discuss them as a family so we are all on the same page ready to create an incredible community. Let's go Wolves!

There have been a few changes in Infinite Campus since last Friday. Please check Infinite Campus for the most updated schedule. If you notice an error on your schedule or need to make a change (see our policy) then you can enter that here in the Schedule Change Request Form.

In case you were unable to make it to one of the orientation nights this week, here are the slides. We look forward to seeing all of our students on Tuesday! We will all be working together as we co-create West. If you haven't been in the building yet, no worries we will help you find your way.

If you did not attend registration and need your picture taken, we will have a makeup day on Monday, September 12th for students to get their picture for IDs. Picture Retake day will be October 19 for students needing retakes or school pictures taken for the first time.

Athletic Pass stickers for students who have purchased one since their ID picture was taken will be given to students at the end of the first week of school.

We look forward to a fantastic year in athletics and activities! A couple of quick updates/clarifications:

• Athletes are not exempt from purchasing athletic passes if they plan on attending Sun Prairie West home athletic events. Athletes will need to purchase an athletic pass if they would like to have one.

• Students who are dual enrolled at East and West can only purchase a pass for their "home" school.

As we prepare to start the year we are in need of awesome subs to help take care of our students when staff are out. Are you looking for a new opportunity? Do you know someone looking? Can you help spread the word? Please help us get the word out so that we can ensure that our students have the very best people supporting them even on days staff (teachers or support staff) need to be out. Having an ample supply of fantastic subs is also a great way to support our staff by allowing them peace of mind when they are out. Our Leaders of the Pack have done an INCREDIBLE job of leading so far! We have had students leading tours, welcoming in families, students and community and they will continue to lead throughout the year!

We would love YOU to be a Leader of the Pack! If you would like to step into this leadership role or would like to nominate someone to become a Leader of the Pack please fill out this form. Parents/caregivers if you think this is an awesome opportunity for your student please talk to them about it and then encourage them to fill out the form. The interest form should be filled out by the student using their school email account.

Student parking is indicated in green and can be accessed from Blue Wolf Way or Ironwood. More details on student parking will be shared at orientation night.

What do I need to bring to apply for a parking permit?

• Make, model and color of any cars the students would drive to school

• A valid driver’s license

What is the process in determining who will get a permit?

\In order to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to apply for a parking permit, students can apply at registration or during lunches on September 6th and 7th. On September 8th/9th, we will evaluate how many students have applied and randomly match students with a parking spot. If we do not have enough parking for students who applied, seniors will get first priority, then juniors and then as many sophomores as possible. Lottery drawings will be held at the sophomore level, if needed.

When will I find out if I get a parking permit?

Students will receive a parking permit by Monday, September 10th in their SP30 class. Parking enforcement will begin on Tuesday, September 11th. The first week of school numbered parking spots will be available on a first come first serve basis.

Does my student need a graphing calculator for math?

If your student is planning to take PreCalculus, AP Calc, and/or AP Stats, they will benefit from having a graphing calculator, which can also be used for the ACT and in Algebra 2 math classes and beyond. The TI84+ or TI84+ CE are what most students use, but there are other types of graphing calculators as well. The school does have a limited number of graphing calculators available to be checked out, and priority is given to students in AP math classes. For students in other classes who wish to have a calculator, a scientific calculator such as the TI-30 is sufficient. Students will have access to online graphing calculators through their Chromebooks.

As we prepare for our first home Wolf football game this Friday night, please review the updated event guidelines for the 2022/2023 school year. We are beyond excited to take the field, stage, pool, court, pitch, course and so much more as Wolves for the first time. Together we can make these fantastic, safe and enjoyable events for all.
