AMS Weekly Update

As the weather has turned bitterly cold, we want to remind you of a few important procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students.
Morning Arrival
The breakfast doors will not open until 7:20 AM. Please ensure your child is not dropped off earlier, as we cannot guarantee supervision or provide shelter before this time.Afternoon Pickup
Students who are picked up after school are not permitted to wait inside the building. Our staff members have after-school meeting and coaching obligations, leaving no adult supervision available for students remaining in the building. We kindly ask that you plan for prompt pickup at dismissal time to avoid students waiting outside in the cold.
NWEA:
Students will take their NWEA tests. These assessments are an opportunity to show growth and progress. We encourage our students to put forth their best effort as they aim to meet or exceed their individual goals.
Exciting Activity Day Incentive:
To reward students for their hard work, those who meet or exceed 2 or more of their NWEA goals and have no suspensions will be invited to participate in a special Activity Day! Students with excessive tardies will not eligible to attend! This celebration will take place on Friday, February 14th during 5th and 6th hour and will include a variety of student-choice activities, such as:
Watching Movies
Participating in a Valentineβs Day-Themed Dance
Playing Basketball
Pizza
Playing Games in the Library
Making Valentineβs Day Crafts
Student Council will be selling snacks
We hope this incentive motivates students to do their very best on the upcoming assessments!
Thank you for your continued support in making this school year a success. If you have any questions, please donβt hesitate to reach out.
Go Adams!
Warmest wishes,
Mrs. Bukosky and Mrs. Abbott

Staff Member of the Month
Special Education
Happy New Year! Each new year brings new beginnings. As we get ready to start a new semester, each student gets a chance to start new in each class. This is a good time to encourage your student to set at least one new academic goal for the remainder of the school year. Special education is all about goal setting and working to reach those goals. This month we will be introducing another one of our amazing Post Secondary teachers, Ms. Rave and her fantastic para, Anne Hinecke.
My name is Julie Rave and this is year 31 in education for me and year 28 in Wayne Westland. I've taught middle school special education, high-school math, social studies in special education and general education high-school English co-teaching for 6 years. I was a Transition Coordinator and Department Head for 6 years, and then went back to the classroom in the Adult Transition Program. I am also the district mentor for all new special education new hires. Wayne Westland has provided me with many wonderful opportunities to grow as a professional, but my greatest opportunities happen in my classroom with my amazing young adults and incredible team I have the pleasure of working with every day. Outside of school I have been a therapist in private practice since 2006. I am a Mom of 3 and Grandma to 3 boys. I love reading, hiking, camping, and traveling. Music is one of my greatest joys so I attend shows regularly and dance, dance, dance!
My name is Anne. I have been with the Wayne Westland Schools since 1996. As a Paraprofessional Educator, I have worked in six different schools with the district. The last 13 years I've had the privilege of being the Parapro with the Adult Transition Program. After graduation from Redford Union in 1975, I attended Schoolcraft College and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1980 with a BS in Music Education. I attended Madonna College for an Early Childhood Endorsement. Richard is my husband of 38 years. We have a daughter Gretchen who is 36 years old. My greatest joy is our granddaughter Harper, she is 13 months old.
Bus Cancellations
If your child's bus is canceled, please make sure to inform the school by calling the attendance line or emailing our counseling secretary Mrs. Chene. Let them know that the absence is due to a bus cancellation. The secretary will mark your child's attendance with a "B" for bus cancellation, which will not count against them for truancy purposes. chenek@wwcsd.net
