Feb 24-28 Inclusion Week - All Means ALL!
At Dorr Elementary our motto is "all means all". It is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that greatness is achieved when we ALL work hard. Next week, Wayland Union Schools is celebrating Inclusion Week. Inclusion week is dedicated to learning about and accepting individuals with various disabilities. Each day, we will have fun dress up themes, and work on fun classroom activities, while learning how to embrace ALL of our students. Together, we can form a stronger base that allows us to reach new heights. When we are Unified, we are unstoppable! Check out the dress up theme days below!
Dancing With The Stars - WUS Edition
Wayland Wildcat Dance Theater is proud to present "Dancing With The Star Staff". This fundraiser event will feature "Star Staff" from around the district performing dance routines with HS Dance Theater students. These routines are judged and voted on by the audience. The winner will be awarded the coveted "Mirror Ball Trophy" to display proudly at their building.
Dorr Elementary is excited to announce that Mrs. Berens will be competing! Join us February 26th at 7:00pm at the Wayland Union Fine Arts Center. Tickets for the event are $6.00.
Mrs. Berens needs your votes! Bring your dollars to "vote" by placing them in Mrs. Berens voting box!
We wish Mrs. Berens good luck and can't wait for her to bring that mirror ball trophy to Dorr Elementary!
Born's Buzz
Dorr Elementary participates in a program called Peer to Peer. Students, with different backgrounds and circumstances, come together to engage in shared activities where ALL students learn together. Our 2nd and 3rd graders who follow our 3 B's (Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe) are chosen by our Dorr team to participate in this program. I oversee the program with the help of our Level 2 Special Education
teacher, Mrs. Onken! Each month, Mrs. Onken and I will be showcasing two PEERs that have been excelling in their work as a PEER at Dorr Elementary.
For the month of January, our two PEERs are.....
Kinsley Zondervan and Kaylee Shaffer!!!
Kinsley Zondervan does great with our younger friends! She speaks to them very kindly and always gives great compliments. Her talent in dance gives the students fun movement breaks!
Kaylee Shaffer comes to her PEER time ready to participate in any lesson or activity we have! Recently, she has been participating in creating cards with our students. She works so well with the students!
Happening In The Halls
Aged To Perfection!
Dorr Elementary students celebrated the 100th day of school with lots of fun events. These grandparents.....er..... I mean 2nd graders took time out of their 100th day activities to pose for a pic!

Outstanding People In Education - Last Chance To Nominate!
Dorr Elementary is lucky to have some of the best staff members around! Why not recognize them by nominating your favorite staff members for the "Outstanding People In Education" award! It's that time of year again, the Allegan County School Board Association is accepting nominations for the "Outstanding People for Education" award! The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor people in education who are excelling in their field and/or are making an impact in the quality of education in Allegan County.
Examples of whom to nominate could include: a teacher, classroom aide, administrator, secretary, board member, volunteer, bus driver, custodian, support staff, social worker, therapist, consultant, community member, or anyone who supports education.
Nominations can come from anyone (students, parents, school staff and community members) and can also be kept anonymous.
The nomination process will look a little different this year, but it will be much simpler. Please click the link or scan the QR code in order to access the Google Form. Nominations are due by Friday, February 28th, 2025.
Lost and Found
It's the time of year that our lost and found areas start to grow! If anything in these pictures look familiar, feel free to come on down and take a look!
In a school of over 300 kiddos, there are bound to be look alike items. You may consider labeling your students items with a sharpie. This will help our staff reunite lost items with their owners!

Excused absence: Students who are absent and return with a doctors note that includes the dates/times the student is to be excused, will be marked as excused absence.
Students who obtain 5 & 7 unexcused or unknown absences during the school year will receive a letter from the school bringing the absences to your attention.
