Special thanks to SARAH WREN for organizing the collection of gift and all the families that donated girft cards for our staff appreciation week. Although there were not enough cards for every staff member, we had 40+ gift cards and it was so fun to do random drawings for staff. We appreciate all the love, care and support our Crossroads families have shown over Staff Appreciation week. We are so grateful to each one of you. THANK YOU!

On Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11:19am, our school received word that there was an emergency in the neighborhood, so we need proceeded with a "secure" procedure in our building for about 37 minutes. The school was given an "all clear" at 11:56am. We did have some students outside at recess that needed to be brought inside at the time.

What a "Secure" Procedure means:

1. Keep students in classroom, unless a restroom visit is urgent.

2. Lock your classroom door.

3. First floor blinds closed.

I had asked COMMUNICATIONS to send something out to families, as it affected multiple schools in our area (such as Como Park Elementary, Como Park HS and River East). It must have gotten away from them and it did not happen. I apologize that families did not receive notification about this prior to now.

So much fun for our CH students!

Our next meeting of the year is: Wednesday, June 12, 2024. We would love to have you join us in person. Childcare will be available for school aged children (4-11).

As a school that receives Title I funding, we are committed to engaging families in our work with students and school systems. At our community meeting on June 12th from 6:30-7:30, we will be sharing several of our Title I initiatives and asking for feedback. You can give your input about any of these topics during the meeting, after the meeting, or at any time during the school year.

Family Engagement Funds

Crossroads Elementary receives Title I funding for family engagement. This year, funds were used to engage families through National African American Parent Involvement Day, Literacy Night, and Title I STEM night. At each event, we provided families with learning materials and resources to support learning at home. We invite your input on the use of these Family Engagement funds on this form, or at the community meeting.

Family-School Compact

Part of our Engagement Plan is to partner with families to strengthen academic outcomes. This partnership is outlined in the Family-School Compact found here. You also received a copy at fall conferences. We will present this compact at the meeting, and will ask for any input on how it can be improved for next school year.

At this time of the school year, we request families to say "goodbye" to their children at the front doors. Teachers and staff have a lot on their plate at the beginning of the day, since students eat in the classrooms. Saying "goodbye" to your child at the front door will help build independent learners. Most students now know their way around the school and we have plenty of grownups in the building to help those that might be sad or need extra support. We promise, your child will get to class and not get lost. Thank you for your help and understanding.
