Dear Bengal Families,

Fall is here and I hope everyone is looking forward to cooler weather! (Will it ever come and stay?) We have had a great first weeks of school and October is a big month for us with our Homecoming, finalizing 1st quarter and so many required tests! We like to say October is not scary because of Halloween but because of all the testing we are required to participate in. That being said, it is a process that we have to do so please be patient and know we are setting your students up for the best situations possible.

End of 1st Quarter is Friday October 11. Report cards will be emailed out the week of October 14 . You can access your student's grades and attendance at any time through the Parent Portal. Your students also have access to Powerschool to monitor grades. If you have questions about grades, you should contact the teacher first. If you need assistance with accessing Powerschool, please reach out to Lucye_Magill@charleston.k12.sc.us

While we often focus on academics, we would be remiss if we did not underscore the importance of good daily attendance. SC Law has outlined attendance parameters and we follow those in CCSD. We are here to help answer any questions you may have and want to remind you of the following:

All absences require a written explanation from the parent/guardian within three (3) school days of return from the absence. Written explanation of absences must include the student's name, parent/guardian's full name, parent/guardian's signature, date(s) of absence(s), and documentation of the reason for absence(s).

Absences in excess of ten (10) days per year will not be considered excused with a parent/guardian note unless they are accompanied by official medical or legal documentation.

The School Counseling Department is excited to have started Senior IGPs and will be starting 11th grade Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meetings in the next couple of weeks. Parents should hear from their student's School Counselor soon with instructions on signing up for their IGP meeting through Calendly. Yearly IGP's are required meetings with School Counselors for students and their parents/guardians to discuss future planning. Students will not receive a pass or reminder for their meeting at school so parents should communicate meeting details with their student. Our School Counselors look forward to talking with you soon!

The ASVAB will take place at LBHS on Wednesday, Oct. 9th in the CGJROTC room.

What is the ASVAB? The ASVAB is a standardized test that measures a person's abilities and helps predict their future success in the military and post secondary options. It's a timed, multiple-aptitude test that assesses four domains: verbal, math, science/technical, and spatial. This test is free and if you score a 31 or higher you are considered CCR. These results can also be used for post secondary career exploration.

The test will start at 8:30 am and you will be excused from class.
