Term 3 has provided lots of opportunities for our winter sports teams to represent our kura in
inter-school winter sports tournaments. Over the last few weeks, our sporting tamariki have participated in netball competitions, hockey festivals and a rugby 7s tournament. Partaking in tournaments such as these is so beneficial for our younger athletes, as it allows for more playing time, and therefore growth in their knowledge, skill and confidence when playing sport. It also builds whanaungatanga as they spend the day together as a team. Still to come in Term 3, is a Ki-O-Rahi Tournament and a Girls Only Sports Day on Friday, and a Girls Rugby 7s Tournament on Monday. Good luck to all those participating.
All weekly winter sports leagues are now finished for 2024. A special mention to our TPS Swish Basketball Team (Yr 3&4s) who narrowly lost the bronze medal playoff in overtime, plus, our TPS Piwakawaka Netball Team (Yr 6) who won their division and brought home a very big shiny trophy!
Thank you to everyone who coached, managed and umpired all of our winter sports teams, without your generosity it would not be possible to have TPS sports teams.
Also a friendly reminder, that all sports uniforms and gear bags must be returned to the school office by the end of Term 3.
Term 4 Summer Sports Teams
Term 4 sports registrations are now open on the TPS School Shop and will remain open until Friday 20th September. TPS will be entering the following local sports leagues:
- Rippa and RIP Rugby
- Flippaball
- Kiwi Volleyball
- Fast Football
- 3x3 Basketball Spring Series

Please note, you must create your own 3x3 basketball team before you register.
Term 4 TPS and Inter-School Sports Events
- TPS Senior Athletics Championships - Tuesday 22nd October 9:00am - 3:00pm at the Tauranga Domain
- TPS Middle School Athletics Day - Wednesday 30th October 9:00am - 12:45pm at TPS
- South Cluster Athletics Championships (Yr 5&6 qualifiers only) - Tuesday 19th November at the Tauranga Domain
- WBOP Athletics Championships (Yr 5&6 qualifiers only) - Wednesday 4th December at the Tauranga Domain
Entries are now open for the annual Weet-Bix Tryathlon which will be held at Arataki Park in Mt Maunganui on Sunday 1st December. A school group has been created, so search Tauranga Primary School when entering your child online. By registering as a school group, we go in the draw to win prizes, are able to secure a spot for a team gazebo, plus receive a team photo. Congratulations to Ava W who recently set a new club record at Evolution Swim Club in the under 9s 25m Freestyle with a time of 27.64 seconds. Ka mahi!
