ACADEMY ADVENTURES MIDTOWN
BUILDING ON STRENGTHS & FILLING BUCKETS!
January 22-26, 2024, was National School Choice Week. We are very grateful to all of our families for choosing Academy Adventures Midtown! We celebrated the week with students doing some fun activities and hosting a special Parent Appreciation Breakfast. Check out the slideshow for pictures; why our parents love Academy Adventures Midtown; and why our students love their school!
February will be a busy month with mandatory Parent/Teacher Conferences, early release days and Rodeo Break. We will be hosting our annual Love of Reading/Stone Soup family event on February 14th. The students are excited to make Stone Soup for their families again this year. Students and staff also get to dress up as their favorite book character! Information was sent home on the event as well as requests for donations for the soup. Check with your child's teacher if you have any questions. As a reminder, we do not celebrate Valentine's Day at the school. Students are not allowed to bring in candy, gifts or cards.
If you have not completed your taxes, the school would appreciate your support with a school tax credit. Check out the form attached below, as well as on our website. Every dollar helps!

THANK YOU!
School Choice Week is very important to Academy Adventures Midtown. We appreciate that you have chosen our school for your child's education. We are thankful for the opportunity to make a positive difference in your child's life and give them the opportunity to be successful and confident learners and children.
Thank you to all our families who joined us for our Parent Appreciation Breakfast! We loved having so many parents participate! We hope you had as much fun as we did!
FEBRUARY 7-9, 2024
Parent/Teacher Conferences are mandatory. Please make sure that you schedule a time with your child's teacher. This is an important opportunity to learn about the progress your child has made, what to expect the rest of the school year, ask any questions or voice any concerns. Conferences last approximately 15-30 minutes.
If you have not signed up, please contact your child's teacher.
HELP US BUILD OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY!
Re-Registration and Pre-Registrations forms will be available during Parent/Teacher Conferences! We are already starting to plan for next school year. We are hoping all of our students in grades K-4 will be returning. If you have a child starting Kindergarten, please make sure to pre-register them so they have a spot. Any questions on registration for the 2024-2025 school year, please contact Mrs. Angela.
Although the school year is in full swing, we are still enrolling students in grades K-5! We have openings in all classes. If you know anyone looking for a new school for their child, please refer them to Academy Adventures Midtown! We have referral incentives for families!
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2024 @ 12:00 PM
Academy Adventures Midtown's Annual Love of Reading/Stone Soup event is schedule for Wednesday, February 14th! Students will engage in a day of fun, academic focused reading and ELA activities and make Stone Soup for their lunch!
We invite and encourage parents to come have Stone Soup with their child(ren) for lunch! Watch for the RSVP and make sure to return it. We want to make sure we have enough soup for everyone!
Don't forget to enable notifications on Class Dojo. This is our primary way to communicate with you at a school level and staff level. All events, emergency information and other information is published in the School Story. Please make sure that you have notifications set up so that if there is an update or emergency you will get the information.
If you have any issues with Class Dojo, please contact your child's teacher for help. Please note, you are NOT required to pay for Class Dojo. We only use the free portion. The paid version is optional and not required.
It is the season for the spread of many illnesses. The constant fluctuation in our weather definitely do not help! If your child shows any signs of feeling ill, please keep them home so they do not spread illnesses at the school. We want to keep students and staff healthy!
We continue to be diligent with sanitizing frequently touched areas throughout the day. Children are reminded regularly to wash their hands before and after meals and being outside. The school is deep cleaned in the evenings with wiping down all frequently touched areas including desks, tables, doors, door knobs, chairs, etc. Health and safety continues to be a high priority.
We appreciate your cooperation and help in keeping everyone healthy!
Academy Adventures Midtown is passionate about supporting the entire child in their academic and emotional growth. Cloud9 World provides many skills to help our students deal with every day situations occurring in their lives at school or at home.
The zebra represents the importance of self-acceptance, the benefit of understanding who we are and the joy of embracing our individuality.
In February, students will be focusing on tolerance. According to CloudWorld9, tolerance is accepting with respect the differences that exist among people. You have your own traditions and beliefs, yet you recognize the diverse beliefs and practices of others. You understand that everyone is entitled to have their own opinion even if it differs from yours. Learning to be tolerant is making a commitment to peace and fairness because you appreciate individuality and uniqueness. You realize that those who are different are not a threat to us, but a wonderful gift from which to learn and grow. When you show tolerance for others you are being an instrument of peace.
We hope you will engage with your child at home and discuss the character traits with them each month. To help, below are parent sheets to help you discuss the current monthly trait with your child. If you would like more information or how you can log into Cloud9 at home, please contact your child's teacher.
Parents can also access Cloud9 World online! Talk to your child's teacher for more information on how you can access the information at home.
We continue to provide Positive Learning Behavior Parent SEL Sessions. These meetings are a great opportunity to provide some Social Emotional Lean "Positive Learning Behaviors". This is a great opportunity to ask questions and receive some guidance from Mrs. Gilbert on how to best support and encourage your child's learning. As a reminder, these are not parenting classes! We are not here to tell you how to parent your child. We are here to help support your child's learning in a positive manner.
Join us every week on Friday mornings at 7:30 AM. Come learn ways you can positively help and encourage your child to do their best on their school work, at home and at school.
We will be taking some survey's during Parent/Teacher Conferences to determine if there is a better day/time that more parents would be able to join in. This is an amazing opportunity and we want to make sure that all our families have an opportunity to participate.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Gilbert either by phone (520-777-3757) or through Class Dojo.
“Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.” ― Dr. Seuss, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, sums up the Early Elementary classroom!
After a beautiful holiday break, I could not wait to return to the classroom with my best friends to continue the fun. Seeing all the smiling faces after two weeks is what I look forward to. These smiles motivate me to find fun, engaging ways to have the students at Academy Adventures Midtown learn and progress at their levels.
With the new year, comes new opportunities. Early Elementary now integrates Social Studies with ELA! In doing so, we are increasing our reading, writing and grammar skills while incorporating important history, understanding civics and geography.
During the month of January, Early Elementary students focused on informative text and its features, while learning about how life was lived in the past. Students were able to explore the past 100 years and identify similarities and differences, as well as form an understanding that informative text gives us information to develop opinions. Early Elementary students' collective opinion is they prefer to live in the present!
If you ever wanted to see faces light up when a light bulb turns on, come to an Early Elementary math class! In January, we reviewed addition within 5, then 10, then 20. Critical thinking is imperative in math. It is essential that students understand the connection of math and the ‘real world’. With that being said, introducing the students to word problems was incredible. We looked at ways math was being used, and then used multiple strategies to find the solution. The same concepts will be used into February for mastering subtraction.
An important part of Academy Adventures Midtown’s mission is to identify each student's strengths. Lessons are designed to help students build on their strengths as successful learners. Students are seen at least twice a week, with one to one direct and personalized education. This individual time of boosting understanding and mastering skills can be magical, important but most importantly, FUN!
As always, I am incredibly thankful that I get to work with your students. Thank you for continuing to choose Academy Adventures Midtown. If you need to get a hold of me, please reach out on Class Dojo.
The Upper Elementary class had some changes happen. Our schedule is a little different now with the implementation of more one on one and small group instruction. We also have been focusing on our strengths working together to improve ourselves while helping each other.
During our ELA class, students have been focusing on reading passages and finding what the main idea is. Once they find the main idea, they dissect the paragraphs to find details that support our main idea. Students have been working on their writing, making sure that their sentences are grammatically correct with capital letters and punctuation. In reading groups, students are practicing reading out loud, making sure to sound out words by breaking words into sections and syllables to help with understanding. During math, students putting a large emphasis on place-value. This way, when we expand on addition and subtraction, the students will begin building more on their confidence when working independently. It helps reinforce their fact fluency skills, their counting and their ability to solve problems in a more efficient way.
Your talented children have been showing great progress in all areas and are truly displaying a lot of engagement and interest in their education. I am beyond proud of how hard they work each day. Seeing their light bulbs go off while working in groups or with partners always brings me so much joy in knowing they’re not only learning but are having fun in the process.
Please feel free to reach out via email or Class Dojo with any questions, concerns or insights you have!
