APRIL 25, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
Thank you, again, for your understanding and support during yesterday’s evacuation. I am so proud of how our staff and students handled the situation. Everyone remained calm and responsive to direction. First responders even commented on how calm, mature, and swift our students were throughout the situation.
Today has been a quiet, calm, and productive day of learning. We can focus on some recent amazing accomplishments that deserve attention and celebration …
Our Opportunities in Emergency Care (OEC) program brought 18 students to the HOSA (Future Healthcare Professionals) State Leadership Conference/competition in St. Cloud. Our students represented us well. To qualify for the international competition, participants must place in the top three at state. We have 17 students who qualified with a number qualifying in more than one event.
Our spring musical, Beauty and the Beast, has been amazing and has received rave reviews from our community. One reviewer commented - “This is the best show I have ever seen!” Congrats to the theater department and the cast and crew of this show for such an excellent production. The final run of shows will be this weekend, and you can still purchase tickets!
Please remember, there is no school tomorrow, Friday, April 26. This day is set aside for staff to engage in professional learning and to prepare for our next set of conferences. We hope you will come by to connect with your child’s teachers on May 8, 3:30-6 p.m.
Finally, I want to thank families for taking a moment in last week’s Possip pulse check to share appreciation for our staff. I look forward to sharing all of the wonderful comments during our staff appreciation week in early May. Thank you!
One school, one community, #SLPPantherProud!

Graduation Commencement and Other Information
- Commencement: The Commencement Ceremony will be Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 7 p.m. at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood. The ceremony will also be live streamed in partnership with our local cable network.
- Reserve your Commencement tickets starting now: Each graduate will be issued up to six general admission tickets to the Commencement Ceremony at Aldrich Arena. Please reserve tickets using this reservation form by May 3. We will have a process for families to request up to two additional tickets from the pool of unreserved tickets. These additional tickets will be awarded by lottery. Having tickets at graduation is a common practice of many local schools with a limited seating capacity and helps ensure each graduate has an opportunity to have members of their family present. The live stream also provides a way for extended family and friends to observe the ceremony live or later.
- Senior class meeting – April 30: There will be a senior class meeting for students at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30. We will review important graduation and end of year processes and timelines.
Cultivating family, career and community leaders…and winning awards
Spring Lake Park High School’s FCCLA organization (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) recently competed at the state level. Individuals earned gold and silver awards for their projects and three students qualified for nationals in Seattle.
After a busy 3-day state competition, students in Spring Lake Park High School’s FCCLA co-curricular group aren’t settling for long. They returned from state and met to celebrate their success and awards, and then shift right into another local community service project: writing personal cards to be delivered to a senior center.
This is just one of many community outreach projects coming from the chapter this year. Read more in the story with insights from the high school's active participants.
