I hope you all are finalizing plans for a Thanksgiving with your loved ones. I love this holiday because it gives me time to slow down and take stock of the things I have in my life that matter most. I hope you have the opportunity to do the same and are able to spend time with those you care about.

On a more serious note, a news piece from CNN (Vaping article) caught my eye about the ongoing impact of vaping. We know that this is an epidemic impacting young people all across our country, but we are just starting to see the research illustrate its harmful effects. Take some time to connect with your student about vaping and usage in general. These are never easy conversations but our kids benefit from knowing we care and are interested in their well-being. Please contact one of our student services team or an administrator if you have any concerns or need additional support. We are all here to help your student be their best version.

With our first winter weather day of the year, I thought this was a fitting reminder for any of you who are drivers. Especially if you are a newer driver and this is your first winter driving.

In addition to the tips on the poster below, an important reminder is that Wisconsin law requires you use your headlights during periods of limited visibility. Limited visibility means that objects are not visible from a distance of 500 feet from your vehicle (i.e.: when it's snowing, raining, or foggy).

Drive safely!

*Please take a minute to reinforce the need to be careful in school parking lots in terms of speed, honoring stop signs, and being extra attentive. We have lots of traffic and new drivers. We want to keep everyone safe. :)

Scholarships are continuously updated and added to our MHS scholarship website throughout the academic year for our 12th grade students. Currently there are several posted that are due in less than one month. Please consider reviewing each of these and applying. If you need any support with your application or have any questions you can stop into Student Services to work with Mrs. Knapp!

Please consider applying for the WI Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program. This national scholarship program promotes and rewards scholastics, leadership, and talent in young women. Each year the program rewards $50,000 in scholarships to deserving young women in WI. The application takes only 5 minutes. Please stop in to see Mrs. Knapp in Student Services with questions or apply at https://www.distinguishedyw.org. Deadline to apply is December 15th.

ATTENTION 9, 10, 11th grade students and parents....

Get ready for an exciting opportunity—Career Exploration Day is almost here! Tuesday, December 10, 2024, 7:25 am until 11:15am. The second half of the day will be remote learning for students. Buses will transport students home at 11:15 am.

This is a chance for students to connect with inspiring professionals and discover pathways to their future careers. To help everyone make the most of this event, we’re thrilled to share information about the amazing business partners joining us this year.

Explore Your Future
Take some time as a family to review the list of presenters and discuss which sessions align with your student’s interests and aspirations. This is their chance to dive into industries and career paths they’ve been curious about!

Registration Details
Seats are limited, students will register during ACP lesson on Tuesday, December 3rd. Each student will select 6 companies they'd like to learn from, and they'll be assigned 4 sessions based on availability. If a session fills up, students can choose another exciting presentation to attend.

Reality Check Day with Educators Credit Union
This hands-on financial simulation will help students learn the essentials of managing money in a fun, interactive way. During the 90-minute in-person session, students will:

• Pick a career and receive an assigned income, marital status, and more.

• Navigate real-life financial decisions like budgeting, spending, and saving.

This is an incredible opportunity to gain skills for life after high school in a safe, supportive environment.

What Do You Need to Know?
To participate, students must download the Bite of Reality 2 app in advance. Here’s how:

1. Open the Google Play Store or App Store.

2. Search for “Bite of Reality 2” and download it.

3. Enter the following codes when prompted:

• Event/Fair Code: 002c8b

Note: Do not take the self-evaluation ahead of time—we’ll provide everything you need at the event!

• Reality Check: Report to the Sal Gym at 7:25 AM for this life-changing simulation.

• Bus Riders: A study hall will be available in the café until 11:15 AM.

What: ASAP is a tutoring program for Freshman students which monitors student progress, reduces student failures, and increases communication among teachers, parents, administrators, guidance Counselors and support staff.

Why: We want students to be successful. A referral to the program is not necessary in order to attend the After School Academic Program but a referral form can be found on the School Website under the Parents & Students Tab under Academic Resources. Students are welcome to get help any week it works in their schedule.

We will be allowing students to enter MHS through Door 16 (Athletic Doors) during morning passing periods to help students get to class on time:

• Door 16 will be open during passing periods between 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3rd, and 3rd and 4th hours.

• The doors will ONLY be open during the five minute passing period window. A staff member will be monitoring students entering the building during this time.

• Report absences before 8:30 am.

• Report absences by logging into Infinite Campus, either through the Campus Parent App or from a computer.

• Once logged in, click More, then Absence Requests.

• Select your student(s).

• Select the reason from the drop-down.

• Select the absence type.

• Select the date(s).

• Add Comments.

• Click Submit

We will now be sending out the weekly parent/guardian/student newsletter via email AND by text going forward. To make sure that you receive communication either way, double-check your settings in IC. Here is a form to follow along to make sure your settings are correct.

Our Weekly Parent Newsletter is a great way to keep up on the happenings of MHS. Additionally, our webpage and social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook are used to help celebrate the awesome things our students are doing.
