From the Principal's Desk
Hello Little Viking Families,
It was so wonderful to see so many parents at parent teacher conferences this week. I am so proud of the growth your students have made. Thank you for your partnership in their learning! Report cards in grades K-8 are electronic this year and can be viewed by logging into your family Skyward account. See Dr. Martelli's step by step directions below for more details. I hope you and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving. When we return from fall break, I want to make you aware of three important things:
1) Winter is coming! Please remember to send students dressed appropriately and review our weather condition chart. (pictured below). Students go outside whenever conditions permit it. Hats and gloves are encouraged and students will need snow pants and boots to play on the grassy areas if snow is on the ground.
2) In the event of an emergency weather day, we may utilize our eLearning plan and hold school remotely. This is still considered a school day and students must be called out if absent. Teachers will prepare students ahead of time to know how to join remotely. If you can have them log in to their computers, we can guide them the rest of the way! Please be sure to review the eLearning day schedule in more detail below in case we need to use it!
3) Starting in January, I will be taking a short FMLA leave and Mr. Steven Hanus will be acting Principal at Salt Creek School! Please reach out to him with any building concerns. This will be an easy and positive transition for our building and students since Mr. Hanus knows all of our students and staff already. I am so grateful he agreed to step up and lead the building in my absence. If you need to contact him, you can still call the school and ask to be directed to the principal, or email him at shanus@saltcreek48.org. I will be returning to work intermittently throughout February and March and will be back in the building full time after spring break in April.
Happy Thanksgiving Vikings!
-Mrs. Scanlan
REPORT CARDS
Curriculum and Instruction Update from Dr. Chris Martelli
Electronic Report Cards
We are excited to announce an important change in how we deliver report cards to our students. In our ongoing efforts to streamline communication and improve efficiency, we will be transitioning from paper report cards to electronic report cards for the 24-25 school year.
This shift to digital report cards brings several key benefits:
Immediate Access: Parents and guardians will be able to view report cards in Skyward as soon as they are published, allowing for quicker access to your child's academic progress. A PDF of directions on how to access your child's report card can be found here.
Environmentally Friendly: By moving to an electronic format, we are reducing paper waste and contributing to a more sustainable future.
Security and Accessibility: Electronic report cards will be securely stored, ensuring that sensitive information is protected. You will also be able to access historical records at any time.
What to Expect:
- Parents and guardians will receive another email from their building principal with instructions (hyperlinked above) on how to access the electronic report card from Skyward before the first report card is released.
- Skyward is user-friendly, and our staff will be available to assist you if you need help accessing the reports.
- Report cards will continue to include the same detailed information about your child’s academic progress, behavior, and attendance.
We believe this transition will enhance our ability to communicate more effectively with families and support student success. If you have any questions or concerns about the new process, please feel free to contact the school office, and we will be happy to assist you. If you would like to receive a paper copy of your child's report card, please contact your child's school office and we will be happy to print and send home a copy.
Thank you for your continued support as we work toward a more efficient way of engaging with our parent community.

I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
