Copper Beech Parent Update
Week of May 13, 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Copper Beech Families,
This week, we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week. We appreciate our teachers and staff for their dedication and hard work, and we know you do too! Thank you for the many ways you showed your appreciation this week. The teachers enjoyed the treats, gifts, and special notes you and your children shared with them. We also appreciate our PTA for providing donuts and coffee on Monday and for the special lunch they provided to our staff this week. Your thoughtfulness has truly made our teachers feel loved and appreciated.
On Monday, we had our No Place for Hate assembly, and it was a joy to see our students actively engaged in Jimmy Curran's presentation. Their attentive listening and participation in the reading of his book were commendable. I was particularly impressed by the thoughtful questions and their eagerness to understand who Jimmy Curran is and how he lives life with a disability.
On Thursday, our fourth—and fifth-grade students participated in the Holocaust presentation. We were deeply moved by the students' respectful behavior, as well as their understanding of the impact of this horrific historical event and their empathy for the victims and their families.
I hope everyone enjoys the sunshine on Saturday. Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers on our staff or someone who is a mother figure to someone special in your life. Have a great weekend!
Best,
Ms. Stokes

Holocaust Remembrance Day
Sarah Meller came to Copper Beech on Thursday, May 9th, to speak to our 4th and 5th-grade students about her experience as a young girl escaping the Natzi's from Split, Yugoslavia. In addition, our fifth-grade teachers shared poems and pictures drawn by the young inmates of the Terezin Concentration Camp featured in the book I Never Saw Another Butterfly: Children's Drawings and Poems from the Terezin Concentration Camp. Then, they wrote about how they stand up against hatred and include others. The butterflies are displayed on an interactive bulletin board for kindergarten through fifth-grade teachers to visit (pictured above).
