JUNE 2024 NEWSLETTER
SEQUOYAH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Greetings from Mrs. Gabriel
Hello!
I cannot believe this year is coming to a close. This school year brought on a lot of challenges for me personally and professionally. Professionally, we took on a lot of change this year. We completely flipped our SOAR model, adjusted to a new building schedule, learned and implemented new and improved strategies to help students learn to read, and we welcomed a new CLP program to the building. These things were HUGE for our staff and student community. We are committed to giving ALL students what they need to succeed - we have embraced The Science Of Reading as the best, researched based, model to help kids learn to read. As we know, kids who can read well can learn anything! As usual, the Sequoyah team handled it all like the professionals and rockstars that they are. They asked questions, put the time and effort in, and kept your kids' best interests at the heart of all of it.
On a personal note, losing my husband was not something I expected to be on my 2023/2024 school year BINGO card. It was a tough road and I just want to thank each and every one of you for your love, support, and kind words. Just your smiles and frequent check-ins mean more than you know. I wasn't the only person on staff who endured a difficult loss or challenging situation this year. The way our staff steps up for each other and your kids is truly unmatched. The way you all come together to take care of us in our difficult times is something I'll never forget. I could go on and on, but I'll just leave it at that. Thank you.
Your kids continue to amaze me. We saw SO. MANY. EXAMPLES. of growth, kindness, and heart warming moments. We will continue to work hard at giving them our very best and I know you will all continue to do the same for us. Together, this community will provide an amazing educational experience for kids that focuses on the whole child. We'll learn, have fun, show each other what it means to be kind and respectful, and create lasting memories.
I consider myself incredibly lucky to serve this community. Thank you for sharing your kids with us. I hope you all enjoy a fantastic summer. May this be a time to slow down, reset, and take in all of life's little moments. They go by too fast! Enjoy every second.
See you in September! We'll be ready for you!
Lots of Love,
Monica Gabriel
